Hi there adp, great work again, and clever getting all those words in there that are so relevant. I have been close up to Zebras, and boy are they skittish beasts, which probably explain why they aren't used as horses. Although i seem to recall a story that P.T. Barnum would ride one in front of his parade to publicize his shows, would certainly raise an eye brow. Can't imagine cowboys using zebras though, still the shoot outs they had would probably have never started, the bad guys wouldn't be able to fire a shot for laughing and rolling on the ground!! Just my odd imagination, never mind, I will go away eventually.

I'm totally puzzled by your remark about the author's note - self righteous about directing people to documentaries? I have had quite a few reviewers tell me they know nothing about zebras other than seeing them in zoos and now that they've read the poem, they want to know more about the lives they lead and they're going to find a good documentary to watch. Sorry if you took it some other way.

I was open to being wrong but, I still was curious. It just sounded acusatory to being couch potatoes. or passively standing by.while you were enlightened. I guess that I should have kept silent? Tony

all I was saying is that I've seen some fascinating documentaries on zebras - I hardly think that is claiming to be enlightened compared to the "masses." And turns out I was right - lots of people didn't know anything about zebras. Lots of things I don't know anything about either, and if someone recommends a way to find out, I say thank you and follow up on their recommendation.

I am familiar with the ones in the zoo and the characteristics they have shown.
I was a bit surprised by some I read here and I guess I do need to see the documentary after all for I think I know very little about them. Nice poem.

They live a very harsh life, many months of the year in search of water and food during drought. And they are the prey of animals like lions, who pick them off one by one if they stray from the herd - it's fascinating stuff to see them fight for survival. thanks for your review!

A really nice piece of work. I have lived in Africa all my life and don't need documentaries to know how well you have evoked the imagery of the "bush" life and the struggle for survival that applies. Great work.

What a beautiful animal the zebras are. I can see why they would blow your mind. All of that writing from A to Z blows my mind. I am one who has only watched them in a zoo, but after reading your poem, I will be more interested the next time I see them. Good writing. Lani2
