very very thought- provoking.
'should we be too proud of our dominion over all the beasts?'

Fantastic. A deep moral and philosophical insight into what makes us who we are.
Top marks lol :)
Out of interest are you religious?

Wow, that is an interesting question. The answer can go two ways. I am an elder in the Presbyterian church and attend church every damned Sunday without fail. I have always believed in God, unwaveringly. On the other hand, I hate right wing conservative religious nuts who think God is on their side and opposes gay marriage and transsexuals and abortion and liberalism in general. I also pick and choose what I believe in. I do so believe in God and some sort of Heaven, but not in Hell at all. I believe Jesus was a great man who taught peace and justice, but I'm not much into virgin birth or the resurrection. I don't really care if he was God's special son or not. I married an atheist, and my two adult children are atheists, and that does not bother me because they are moral, ethical, compassionate people who live as I believe Jesus taught people should live, so who cares if they believe? I don't think God holds it against them at all just so they keep living a good life. I do not at all think Jesus is the only way to salvation - I know lots of great people who follow Judaism, Hinduism, etc. I have no desire for them to become Christian. How's that for the shortest answer I can come up with? LOL Thank you so much for your very generous review :-)

We have to remember in many places we are not the dominate or top of the food chain. As in the arctic where the polar used to dominate. What or who gave us the right to do the horrible things man does to these precious creatures we are supposed to be sharing the earth with? I guess being abandoned and not wanted I kind of relate. I wish I could take the hurt away from every child and animal on earth. Wish I had a six. Beautiful and has me in tears. joan marie

It is my feeling that, whilst ostensibly knowing everything, science in fact knows very little. It does so enjoy posturing though; perhaps it needs to be brought down a peg or two :-)

yes, I think science has this flaw as do people who think they've been given all the answers by the Bible - they read they have dominion and then go around lording it over the land and its inhabitants, screwing everything up in their haughtiness :-) Thanks yet again!!

No we should not be proud at all ... and yet, I wonder what this planet might be like if 'we' were asked to save the dinosaurs ... hmmmm. Never an easy solution. To everything there is a season, I guess ... you and I and them, as well. XO Lea Ann

well, at least we don't own the blame for the dinosaurs - though I'm sure we would have screwed that one up too! LOL

Oh, my dearest Brooke,

Thank you for writing this poetic/literary thesis, which issues are too broad for any essay - but are marvellously capsuled in this write. Yes, it is hard to believe that a human stemmed from a chimpanzee, but yes, it's true. Speaks for the evolution. I am an animal lover, Brooke, and an animal activist. For years now I've been involved in animal rescue. I locate the animals on death row across country whose time is running out because these poor animals became a SURPLUS which our govenment, investing billions in useless space research, would not acknowledge. Next step is to locate rescues who would take these poor animals. It cost me thousands over the yeasr, but I saved many, many lives. One cat we pulled out of the "death" shelter 4 hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized.

I think humans became savages and forgot that they stem from some of thee animals. Destroying any animal is a hineous crime, not just endangered species.

You raise a very important question. There is NO jusfication in human's dominion over animals. Animals are often better than us. For example, my cat Lucky who is following me everywhere, purrs into my pillow and replaced my mother's love. My mother has been gone for over a year and a half, and since I adopted Lucky from a kill shelter, I feel this love again.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing this story. It touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes.

Fondly, Yelena

My daughter, long a cat lover, has become involved with cat rescue lately since her husband was asked to do a video for the Furr Ball in Los Angeles recently - the two of them went on site of a mass cat rescue, then did interviews with cats' right activists, like the lady who stars on the Office and hosted the ball - you do great work!!! And yeah, people suck at dominion.

Very philosophical! And very well written. My brother and I participated in the human genome project and found the results fascinating. I'm betting on the chimpanzee as one of my past relatives - judging from my granddaughter's behaviour that is!

i agree with you on this statement " I just ask, in a world where many creatures are endangered because of human behavior, should we be too proud of our dominion over all the beasts?" i don't see how man is better than the animals. they think too. obviously they do otherwise they wouldn't be able to problem solve. if man thinks searching day after day looking for nutrition and safe shelter isn't problem solving then maybe the scientists or people should go back to that time.
easy to read and follow. no spaggies do i see. imagery is excellent. stanzas are well written. keep up the good work~
love,
barbara

that is the point of my poem totally - at dominion we totally suck!!! man has decided he is high in God's hierarchy, but a lot of that is just hubris! thanks for your thoughtfully philosophical review!
