Wow, that's an amazing revelation, God gets booted out of school, and the devil moves in. Quite a scary scenario. Nicely done.

A cute-but-sad message in this little story along with highly appropriate artwork. A too-bad situation for a lot of high school girls. Good job and good luck.

Hi Sky,
This is a very well written and thoughtout 6 word contest entry. It is also thought provoking and makes the reader go back to the good old days, when God was never expelled from anywhere!!
Good luck in the contest.
Love
Pupa

I liked the poem. But, that was before I read the author's notes. Atheists and agnostics are some of the most honest and moral people I know. Remember George Washington was an atheist and he was known to never to tell a lie. All the while, the right wing Christian, Sarah Palin, has a teen age daughter unwed and pregnant. So, morality is so much not linked to religion, rather, behavior. Right wing legal scholar, Allen Dershowitz, wrote an excellent book proving religion has little or nothing to do with morality in his book, "Rights from Wrongs." Additionally, I'm not sure when God was expelled from our schools. Certainly our first public schools did not teach religion. When did our tax dollars start going to promoting a certain religious belief in public schools and when did it end? That would be interesting to know.

Nonetheless, I'll give you five stars because the six words, by themself, without the author's notes, works for me. Cheers, Dean

Our country is based on the Christain ethic, which promoted prayer everywhere, from the first settlers, the Pilgrims, the Quakers, etc. The Engel v. Vitale decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1962 prohibited state-mandated prayer in public schools classrooms. Thanks for your review, comments, and questions.

Well, I'll just remind you George Washington was a Deist, John Adams was a Unitarian, Thomas Jefferson was an atheist (and really disliked Christians) So, I'm not sure where you get our nation was founded on Christain principles? Even Abraham Linconln was considered an atheist and was certainly anti-Christian.

Certainly the Puritians started the first public school in the U.S. But, it is a stretch to say our nation was founded on Puritian beliefs. After all, it was Jefferson that wrote, "I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of relgion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a was of separation between church and State." -Letter to the Danbury Connecticut Baptist Association, January 1, 1802. So, the courts were right to keep prayer out of public, tax paid schools. As Thomas Jefferson says, our nation was founded on the concept of the separation of church and State.

I still will like to learn more about the history of prayer in public schools throughout the nation. Like, were all U.S. school saying prayers or just in communities where religious convictions were especially strong? I found very little info on that using a quick wikipedia and google searching.

Anyway, there are some interesting thoughts there. Certainly your six words were thought provoking. Good for you. Write on!

    Cheers
    Dean

Wow, you really know a lot of stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was only referring to the original people who fled from across the ocean to settle here, because of religious persectution.
All of these great leaders of our nation worked so diligently to formulate the foundation of our country, to make it good for everybody, as much as it was feasible.
Thanks for all this really informative info. I will google the other questions, and maybe learn more. thanks,

You've said it in just two words, "God expelled." Even though the future may not know him, we will still remember, and can instill him in the hearts of our children.

Hi skye...I have to agree when God was taken out of the schools morals declined or maybe it just seems that way...who knows for sure. I remember a girl in my high school got pregnant and was expelled from school. That mind set is a thing of the past. A good six word story...good luck in the contest...blessings....chey

This is a well-written six-word contest entry, skye. I don't agree with you completely, though. Way back when I was in high school, some of the girls got pregnant. But in those days, they were expelled from school, which didn't do the girls or their babies any good. Many of the girls got "back room" abortions. I remember that one girl died from the abortion. Yes, those were the good old days.

No need for more. This is well said. A whole story, with a hint of moral and what could be. Yet, a happy ending which brings satisfying conclusion. Good luck!

this is an excellent entry for the contest, the artwork is just so right with it, and then your words although few just cover exactly the story, the author notes were also very informative, mthxs and good luck in the contest
