A letter to the nephew I've never met54 total reviews

This was beautifully written and heartbreaking. I hope one day Christopher will decide to contact you.
A few suggestions:
I longed to take you in and raise you[,] but Diane decided
non-related --unrelated
The family who is adopting him[,] agreed to call him Christopher.
Your uncle[,] John[,] would love to meet you, too.
It was especially sad that your sister couldn't ever have another child. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review. Question - are you saying I should remove the commas around uncle and John? I know they are correct. :-)

Actually, if you capitalize Uncle, you could remove both commas.

I think it is worded just right because it communicates so well that you miss this boy you were never allowed to meet.
People often forget that these decisions impact others greatly, like grandparents and aunts, people not given a voice in the decision but who suffer for it. I do hope Christopher has had a wonderful life with his adopted family.

I read the note and I think that this is perfect as it is. I really can't see any other way in putting something of the intensity down. It cuts to the point, and I hope that one day Chris will read this.
Great write.
All the best,
Z

I thought this was a beautiful post. I appreciate your sharing something very personal for you. I do not have any suggestions for you because I thought the way you voiced your story was the best part of it - it was personal and from the heart.
Thank you and good luck

This was a lovely, well written letter, and it deeply expressed an aunt's love for the nephew she missed. I think that if you finally connect with your nephew, it will be unexpected and joyous.

You have tapped into a wonderful network of people all across the world. Maybe someone will spread your words in the right place. Stranger things have happened.
As for the story, I really don't know how you can improve it. You have made a honest, generous offer of friendship and family. He may have to get a little older to appreciate what you've done.
Good luck in finding this missing piece of your family puzzle.

It is so wonderful to feel that much love. I hope he finds out someday how much he is loved. My tears fall for all that don't have anyone who cares. Those who are abandoned for whatever reason will always feel abandoned unless they have someone like you to be there. I know if I was him I would want to know you. joan marie

It just broke my heart. I wish my father had wanted me in the loving way you wish to be with Christopher. We talk now but he was never a parent. I like the format of letter writing because sometimes that is the perfect form for saying what you need to say. jm

This writing is sad and really I cannot understand someone giving up their baby and sometimes this maybe necessary.I feel very sad for this mother in not being able to have children.
Your reply Janilou explains your chosen words. I enjoyed this read very much, sad and this does happen.
"After Nan died in 2004, my father) remarried. My step-mother's daughters are both adopted and neither of them have ever tried to find their biological families. Perhaps you have no desire to make contact. I won't know until I find you.
Even if I find you and you choose not to meet us, at least you will know how much you've been loved and missed all the years of your life."
Wonderful writing ,sad but this can and does happen.
I loved everyword written
Honeytree.

Thank you for the review and for giving me your thoughts on improvements.
I can't say "him" where you tell me to delete "you" because this is a letter written to the adopted son, Christopher. I am talking to him, so it has to be "you." I did try to tweak some of the other things you mentioned and hope that makes it clearer.
Thanks again. :-)

Oh Phooey Jan, that was a heartbreaking piece. I wish real life wasnt so darn...impossible for want of a better word. In fiction she would have been rewarded with three.point nine obnoxious children and a husband who would never have such a small ugly spirit as well. A beautifully written piece.

I felt so sad in reading this diary/letter. It is never an easy choice when it comes to adoption....my neice gave up a child that my sister wanted desperately to take and raise. We have no knowledge of the child's whereabouts or anything. It is a heartache that does not go away. I wonder if someday he will come to find his biological mother. Great and moving writing. Hugs and smiles, Susanne
