Wow, I found another one that I didn't read, but I am so grateful that you lead me to this poem.

Besides being well-crafted, this poem is thought-provoking. I understand your questions, Brooke. There are so many things we as adults don't understand. Imagine a child of eight years old trying to understand such a tragedy.

Thank God, you never lost your faith. There are two books I recommend you read (if you have not read them already). These books were published years ago, but they have been beneficial in my life.

"When Bad Things Happen to Good People" by Harold S. Kushner

"How to Listen to God" by Charles Stanley

T most, we can only guess at what God's plan is and why he answer those he chooses and not the others. Life is a mystery man will never understand. The "Faith" is believing things will work out for the best and we can somehow find it within our "Faith" to cope.

A great write my friend.

Itis no secret that I have always enjoyed your stuff, but htis one is extra special. Because of the expectation you placedon the Lord at a young age, and the growth you've had spiritually since then. Well done. Excellence. :)

you hit it right. sometimes god say's no. but then we have to of course ask the question what did we ask for?

life is full of things we don't like but do we pray to god to help others. no we pray for ourselves.

if good helped one wouldn't he have to by rights help us all?

saten is the ruler of this world. how can we tel?

simple he said to Jesus i will give you all these kingdoms if you do but one act of worship to me. saten offered the world to Jesus. so then he is the ruler of the world and is the reason for all the problems we have. but soon god will step in and he will not help just one, he will help all.

isn't that something to look forward to?

tell then we can pray for each other and give our strength to those who need it.

enjoyed the poem and think it has some points we all can learn from and look forward to reading more. and i am sorry for you... losing your mother the way you did. losing a person you care about is the hardest thing to go through... just as hard as watching them get sicker and sicker. i really am sorry you had to go through that and hope you have recovered and are well...

Oh, I am well, thank you - this was 49 years ago that she died. I thank you so much for sharing your philosophical thoughts and for such a kind review :-)

These are all interesting and good questions, adewpearl. My feeling is that God does what God wants to do, and praying will have no effect on the outcome. But the act of praying for strength and understanding certainly can't hurt and may help. Anyway, I like your well-thought-out poem.

Pearl - to use a pun - this is a pearl in its own right. You hit the 'nail on the head' when you said we pray for strength and understanding more than results. I too, as a child tried to make bargains with God and He must have smiled, even laughed out loud at the offerings I was making if only He would........ Well done my friend. Well done. God Bless.

Are those rhetorical questions? I'll answer
them if you wish. But, somehow, I feel as if
you've already answered them in your own way.
There is no point in questioning the divinity
of life to the analytical point of death. Well,
not in poetry, anyway. Nice work. Yours, Fish

These are questions people pose and often answer in negative ways. How many churches have had congregants disappear after their child is brutally murdered or killed in an accident. How many people find their faith tested when they pray and pray for a cure that doesn't come. Not everyone answers these questions the same way. As someone who does not pray for results, I do not lose my faith when the results are not as hoped for, which is my point. But readers have to answer the questions for themselves. I actually had a reviewer give me a four because I didn't weigh in more explicitly, which would have completely gone against the whole point of the poem! :-) Thank you so much for your thought provoking review :-) Brooke

Brooke, please don't take my paltry reviews very seriously. I
have found very few writers here that I really like. You
are an awesome writer! Prolific and far from disingenuous.
Here, I'll put you on my favorites. And I only have one other.
    Yours, Fish

I think your words are inspiring and filled with wisdom. We are but mere mortals and know not the ways of the Lord. You said it so eloquently - faith is what it is.

This is a lovely sonnet, Brooke, and it raises the obvious and frequent questions, such as why does God give to some and take from others. I think you're right, that he wants us to learn faith. Sometimes, he gives the strength to endure, sometimes it's patience. He did not spare his son either. Often, we are required to examine ourselves and change our ways. It will be interesting to learn what others think. Peter.
