This is lovely, Jeanette, and does help to explain where you got your own strength, determination and love for others. It rhymes well and the stanzas serve to present different stages in your growing up, when he was always there for you. Peter.

Oh! I'm so sorry. Am I in a lot of trouble? How long before I'm reinstated in your affections/regard? I'm so glad you didn't employ some of the expletives in your vocabulary. Peter.

No, Peter, not in a lot of trouble - I am sure to get over your calling me another woman's name. LOL You're a sweetheart - you have to do worse than that to get in the doghouse!!! :-)Brooke

That's a relief, dear friend. So, now we're sweathearts; I'll dream well tonight. Take care, Peter.

I'm delighted to learn that you're a friend of Margaret Snowdon, who admires you facility with words as much as I do.

Your doghouse might be quite comfy. Would you feed me?

I wait for Margaret's new chapters very impatiently - I love her book. I also just read some more of her poems, which just make me weep. I told her that her descriptions of Britain make me cry, and I'm not even British. Both being Brits, have you met each other in real life? You're two of my favorite people on this site, and both Brits. :-)

I love Margaret's writing too, including her delicious dialogues, characterisation, countryside descriptions, and her woman's view, something a male writer needs to study. We have not met yet, though she lives not far from Salisbury, about 50 miles from Poole. I've told her you and I are friends too, and I've told Jinny about both of you because she couldn't miss my preoccupation with reviewing you two. Margaret guided my hand when I wrote the passionate parts of my last chapter; she has a sure touch, knowing just how far to go.

Yes, we're both Brit buddies of yours; it's our passion for writing which unites us. I have only recently got into Margaret's poetry and enjoy it very much.

well, you just tell Jinny I say hi - and now I know why you call yourself Peter Poole on this site - because you live in Poole! :-)

This is very touching. You are a lucky girl. My father abandoned me when I was three. Oh, my. Sorry 'bout that. Stepfathers just aren't the same as you describe in your poem. Or maybe some of them are, but I've never experienced it. Wow! Got a baby violin? Sheesh. I think I need to go night night.

WONDERFUL POEM!!!! Impressive as always!

You are most kind - I'm so sorry your dad didn't come through for you. When my mom died, some people, I'm told, worried that my father would not be up to the task of raising me. He came through with flying colors. Thank you so much for this review :-)

A beautiful image selection. Good presentation and pleasing color scheme.
Good use of rhythm and rhyme. The lines flow well.

That was a lovely expression of a loving father. I find it all the more special since I lost mine when I was barely seven.

Excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed this living tribute to your father. Dads are wonderful people, especially to their daughters. I think they, more than even mothers, can instill self-esteem and pride in self enough to be unafraid to challenge the world.

Such a beautiful, poignant piece, remembering a man who loved his little girl. There are parts of this that remind me of my Father which makes it all the more lovely to me.

This verse is so familiar- -my Father, and I'm sure many other Fathers did this very thing. I can still feel the joy when Dad did this with me.

"He would waltz as I stood upon his shoes
and hold me safe while we circled the room.
As we swirled in sync, his smile let me know -
I was the note that completed his tune."

This delivers a sense of fond memories- -it reads and flows so well from the birthday to the memory of it all. No spags spotted by these old eyes.

Your father reminds me of my mother.
What a precius gift this memory captured in poetry is to him.
Such a delight to read of your happy childhood. A rare occasion these days!
