Hi hun.

This is fantastic! I simply love your reminscent mood-poetry. It brings me back to my own childhood, and of times that were long forgotten. How soon those times of joy, baking with Mom on holidays and such, get put behind all the chaos of broken relatinships. *sigh* Even when we had to eat grits and eggs for breakfast and dinner, she always made sure we had something filling. Er...sorry. Life was not an easy endurance in those days.

I really like this rhyme scheme. Very well-written! Your writing never ceases to impress me.

Take care,
Crissy

Well, as far as I've observed in my short time
on earth, not one person knows what life means.
They just live their lives. In the case of writers,
well, they just write. Big, small? Who cares?
It's the interest in things and a love of life
which makes all the difference. Nice poem.
Yours, Fish

I never had the pears, but my mother crafted the best of natures popsicles by washing and freezing peaches fresh off the tree. Us kids would grab a frozen treat on the hot summer days. But like you, I remember well my grandmother and mother alike sprinkling the cinnamon sugar on the left over pie dough and baking them into treats. Beautiful memories. Thank you.

Life is lived, truly lived, in
its smallest moments, not in
grand experiences. I loved this one
for it reminds us to cherish the
simple everyday moments of our lives.
Nice work!
Take care,
Nita

Oh Brooke, my pearl, you always touch my heart with your poetry! So much! Your author's notes further served to move me, and I just adore you, your poetry and who you are as a person.

This poem and the sentiment behind it is another of many fabulous treasures and measures by a prolific and masterful writer and scholar of people. Your musings are correct. We often pin (or pen, either works in its own way) our hopes and dreams on those things that matter not in the end...we know it, yet we don't acknowledge it.

Fine work!

Much Love,
Penny

This is beautifully written, well structured and rhymed. I did think it was a little too sentimental and in danger of crossing into the land of kitsch. Sort of like a Thomas Kinkaid painting; pretty yes, but super idealized. I think you pulled it off well, and it's as soft as a down comforter.

adewpearl,

popcorn balls coated in caramel... peanut brittle with few peanuts... fresh sheets after they've hung outside all day next to the blooming orange trees in spring... kids playing by an open fire hydrant on a hot august evening... the smell of fresh cut grass after a rain shower... warm toffee being massaged on a marble slab... fresh mango ice cream, still a little soft... fresh baked apple pie with a trellis top that lets the baked cinnamon scent escape... fresh squeezed lemonade in a paper cone cup and the smile a kid gets when he gets the dime for his sale... but nothing is quite as lovely as Mary in the morning as she walks the orange orchard and capures that scent in her hair...

ok, back to reality, nice poem ;-D

c ya

Driving past cattle feeding lots has the strong smell of cow manure. Now who would imagine this giving off wonderful memories. Well it does with me. It reminds me of my childhood. Rising at dawn and going with my grandfather to collect the cows for milking. The warm air mist and aroma coming from the fresh cow pads on a cold winter morning was a wonderful reminder of country life like no other.
Mum used to spread the left over pastry cuttings with jam. Roll them up. Sprinkle them with sugar and cook them in the oven as our treats.
Thank you so much for the memories. Your poem is a delight and well written too.
