adewpearl,
If only life was as simple as getting under a desk and
hiding to be safe. Sounds like the submarine was lots of fun. I'm glad you shared your two memories and one was happy. Good luck in the contest.

I adore these both and I too remember those little toys that we enjoyed so much. I really loved them both but the first was very sad and the second was light hearted and fluffy. Nice contrast. fear verse content. Nice

well it's getting hard to keep up with all the poems. LOL I read and then forget which ones I read and sent notes to. Till I check to make sure I hadn't read it before, etc. I'm played out. "smile" I know I'll never read them all but I'm just glad I'm not walking. Hahahaha

Life through the eyes of a child is a wonderful view. Thanks for reminding me as adults our affect on children and the joys of something very simple. A two poems for the price of one what a deal!

Hello adewpearl, Liked you first memory,
but loved you second childhood memory, just the fact that you had fun creating your own ways to have fun in such a wonderful poetic voice.
The best of luck to you in the contest
smiles
Gert

These pieces are sensational! They brought back many memories. The imagery of childhood was so well done and the rhyme was great. Have anymore of these poems? I would like to see them made into a book of "nostalgia" poems! Good job

Oh, duck and cover....as if that was going to save our young lives...lol. But we did it at the sound of the siren! Well written with good, sound ryhme and flow.

Love "Sailing Ships!" All the great toys they used to put in cereal boxes! My mother had dozens of different types of cereals (there were 6 kids) chosen by us only for the prize. Nice work. Hugs and smiles, Susanne

I remember both things that your poems stated. The little submarines were great, weren't they. The whole idea of hiding under the desk was ludicrous to say the least. I enjoyed reading both of these well written verse... John

Thank you for sharing your memories - I want to connect with people on that level - my memories triggering theirs, so I appreciate your telling me. And yes, the submarines were a highlight of life! :-)
Do you think any of the adults really believed the whole desk thing would work, or were they just trying to reassure us? Not sure the drills were the right way to go if that was their goal LOL

I just think that it was a fear factor and ignorance
as I had teachers in those days that would smack us on the knuckles of our hands with rulers or those god awful pointers the teachers would use...

thankfully, even back then no corporal punishment was allowed in my school though I've heard of such stuff from my aunts and other older people - I would murder any teacher who touched either of my children!!!!! ;-)
