You need to publish a book of your poetry. Each poem I read is better then the previous. You have quite the knack for unforced rhyming and flowing. And your poems bring genuine laughter. You are very talented!

You're not only a poet Brooke, but also a linguist. Listen, do me a favor... my mother is a big time author. I know her agent also deals in poetry. Send me your email and we'll get your stuff into her hands. I can't promise anything because I'm still trying to make it myself, but your words speak volumes. And by the way, Petunia sounds like a voice that will speak deep into the future. You should write more around her.

This is a lovely offer, guarantees or not. I will send you my email in a private message and will appreciate anything you can do. I have several other poems in this series already on this site if you check under my name in community. They are not about Petunia but are comic stories in the same vein. thanks ever so much! :-) Peace, Brooke

I loved this one and especially the line, "If happy endings were up for sale..." You have a way of putting me right in the middle of your story, I can see it, hear it, touch it, and don't ever want them to end.
Good job

comeuppance - something unpleasant .. is that what she got?

I am always astounded at people who can rhyme - it seems to come magically... it almost has the same rhyme as reading a Dr. Seus book .. now please take that as a compliment - rememember how many books are out there with his name on them. It has that nice flowing pace. Petunia ..what a brat (if one can be so bold).
Very well written - even though some individuals may even know some child just like Petunia. So they may not find the poem as fun to read. Does life imitate art or art imitate life?

She blew up into tiny bits during her final fit - I'd say that is unpleasant! :-) A comparison with Dr. Seuss honors me so totally. Not one single person has been upset I killed off the little darling and many have known her or her twin! LOL They all tell me they are laughing :-) Thanks so much for a lovely review :-)

your very welcome for the review.

I suspected she blew up - and that no one misses her.

    But still, how sad.

I suppose it would be sad if she were a real little girl, but she is just my gallows humor fantasy, so all is well LOL

You do such an excellent job with these crazy word poems, adewpearl! Have you considered making a book of them? They really are enjoyable and fun.

Thank you so very much - glad to give one of those Petunias her comeuppance, at least!

Except for the ending you could have ben describing my daughter, Lyssa. When she first came to live with us when she was three she would throw a fit for hours at a time while hurting herself however she could. Years of therepy have fixed that. I thought this was very well written.

I'm so glad therapy worked and she didn't have to blow up in little pieces to solve the problem!!!

LOL I have known a child or two like Petunia. Very clever wording and catchy rhyme. Excellent poetry!

Notes:

sobbed and sniveled and snuffled,
[till] rain clouds started to form.

'till

If happy endings were up for sale,
I'd purchase one for a tuppence.
In truth[add ,] Petunia exploded one day
and finally got her comeuppance.

Well done.

Before I posted this I was hesitant - didn't know whether people would like my dark fantasy or chide me for killing off a wee child. : -D But nobody is complaining! LOL Thanks for such a great review.

Very cute poem. Great rhyming scheme, fun to read aloud. Descripture language, storyline and clever vocabulary words makes this poem fun and entertaining.
