thankyou for sharing this lovely memory of your mother with us/me, you have from the title, to the artwork of the dogwood blossoms through to the colour scheme presented this in a strong and clean looking presentation which works so well with your memory of your mother and the shine and sparkle of the floor, excellently thought and written and a great tribute, good luck in the contest

It is one of my favorite of my own poems - it made my daughter Miranda cry, so that is all the praise it ever needs - no need to win contests after that. I'm so gratified it made you feel what I was trying to convey. Peace, Brooke

brooke,
i think the dogwood blossoms are very appropriate. if i recall correctly, the dogwood tree is pretty hardy. often stands the test of time like your love for your mother.
easy to read and follow. no spaggies do i see. imagery is excellent. stanzas are well written. keep up the good work~
love,
barbara

This was touching and an interesting memory to focus on. It paints a vivid picture for us, one you see in your mind's eye. Love that you brought it back to the central thought at the end. Nice entry.

adewpearl, this was a beautiful poem, touching and even with memories so few, you were still able to grab onto memories that touched you, and these allowed you to see the shine... a beautiful thought. goodluck, much love twomoon

lovely, gentle presentation; I remember those dang kneeling pads lol.
Oh this is touching; how hard for a child whose mother transitions early on; One of my best friends left a 6 yr old girl; it was heartbreaking;
well written; touching; no corrections at all; best wishes in the voting booth :-)

What a sadly brief time you had with your mother. You paint a vivid picture with your words of her scrubbing the floor for those she loved. Best of luck in the contest. Blessings, Linda

Linda, thank you for such gracious comments. This is one of my favorite poems I've ever written and it made my daughter Miranda cry, so I don't much care if it wins a contest or not. :-) You are most kind, Brooke :-)

I love when you write about your Mom. I remember you writing about her before, and also that you lost her when very young. This is such a simple memory, but I can understand its importance, because it is one of so few. Your poem is gentle and personal and in its lines is deep emotion and like always, beauty.

Thank you for sharing this story of your mother. I am always amazed at what we remember about our loved ones that pass, what we remember, it is almost always the simple things of life. I am sure your mother is very proud of you.

Donovan, I wrote a poem that took the joking out of you! I'm touched, but I wouldn't have minded the joking anyway :-) You're most kind. Peace, Brooke

You wrote a very beautiful poem about your mother. I would always want to be respectful of that. She is proud of you....and also knows what a rascal you can be.

thank you, my respectful jokester :-) Brooke

Hi Brooke, I've read this before, but not sure why I didn't get to leave a review. I thought I did.
I love the picture. Always love things in the shade of green and white. So pleasing to the eyes. Now your poem would still do well without the picture. I have the same image of my mother too, and I remember doing it too. We enjoyed playing with water while scrubbing the floor.
Best wishes in the contest.

thank you - I found that when I didn't have pictures, some people would go on and on about why I should, so now I do it all the time. I'm glad my memories brought up memories of your own mom. Peace, Brooke :-)

my mother is still around, just that we stay quite far apart, about 7-8 hours drive. I try to see her more often nowadays.
