What a profound and sobering way to enlighten us with your thoughts.
I was moved by this piece, as I served in the Air Force. Although I was never subjected to that of what you speak, the story rings well and the meaning runs deep.
Although I've been scribbling for years, I'm very new to actually writing poetry and have a great deal to learn. My worldwide travels though have given me such wonderful experiences I wish to share with others, that I can't help but put it into words!

Hello! Much appreciation, David. The American serviceman in this offering is loosely based upon the experiences of my uncle, Sargent William Kenel who experienced all that is related here, but did not perish in Cabanatuan Prison; rather, he was killed by a missile from an American submarine whose commander and staff could not decipher that the hellship he was on was a POW ship. My uncle and 1700+ servicemen were chained in the holds of the ship; there was no way to escape when the missile hit. All perished in the China Sea. I chronicle that experience and the effects it had on my father's family in the poem "What Price Courage?" Do stop by again! And welcome! diane

This writing reflect the poem of different mental stage of a soldiers who faught war with Japanese.Cruality of the second world war is explained here .Prisoner of war ,concentration camp,atom bomb,etc .this ultimatly gave the message NO WAR.NO WAR. The same message which I gave in my poem
"You should not start the war"

Very poignant and the message comes through loud and clear. Coincidentally, I just finished reading a book by an author who is a sansei and he weaves a bit of the history of the camps throughout his story although the novel is a detective one. We kind of overreacted didn't we? Actually I was 4 years old in 1945 so didn't have a clue what was going on. I have a vague memory of being taken to the Peace Tower in Ottawa with my sister and brother and it being a very special outing.

This is FABULOUS, one of the best historical and/or creative pieces I've read in a while on this or any other site. I recently read a book detailing the Japanese internment camps and this reminded me . . . we need to remember, thanks for so poetically putting the issue to the reading public. : )

What a creative contrast you have written. That which seemed necessary nearly 60 years ago, seems horrible today. Among those interrned were a number of spies who were prevented from doing their bidding, perhaps saving innumerable lives. It too bad so many innocents were caught up in the horrid event. War is hell.
This is one of the most creative writes I've seen on FS.

This is an excellent entry. I have read about the imprisonment of these Americans and it makes me sick to my stomach to know that many were treated as such because of prejudice. It is a sad part of American's history. Well written and good luck in the contest. Thanks, Jeanette
