the show did hit the road...the pauses in between your chapters are very well placed. The impact of that is very important for each novel we read, as I am certain you would know and fully understand. The feelings invoked by your piece of work 'as dejection filled the faces'...transfers to us the readers, Gayle, you are a brilliant writer.

Supper good read. Keep on writing. I adore these intriguing, hanging on to the edge of the chair, kind of stories. You really know how to keep me smiling. Sharon

Lady Gayle,

So another piece is evaluated and verified.

Lovely job checking out the gang controlled areas where the wrong color of your clothing might well be a death sentence.

It does sound as if the cops are fleshing out the picture of skinny boy Tom.

Interesting dialog when they meet the "den mother".

I loved that chapter...when he peers out the door at the van and hopes there's nothing of value in there...chuckled me, too.

Thanks so much for the great comments!

There's nothing to fix here, Annabelle. I guess if a guy was Tony he'd pee wherever he wanted. :-)

What a great scene.

You know, Gayle ... I don't think it's just because it's super late here, but i can't find anything wrong with this piece. Well done. Enjoyed it too!
I shall continue following along.
Hugs and then some,

Old Tom Harris was a bad boy. the mystery keeps on going, and is getting deeper and deeper. It flows well and is very interesting.
Good Luck.

Hi Gayle,

Tony just cracks me up. I love the look he shot them - about guarding the van. Very entertaining stuff. :) Overall, really nice chapter, good description of the neighborhood, gave us a real feel for the place. If you want, you could go a bit further with descriptions of a few of the people milling about, but that's your call.

Not much to pick on. Just two small things at the beginning:

Most of the houses
the rundown old house
(houses/house. Repetitive. Reread and see if it stands out. It didn't bother me all that much, your call.)

looked as inviting as Alcatraz
Doesn't this look inviting?"
(This is definitely repetitive. Adjust.)

Nothin' to kick a star over!
Take care,
Sissy

    Hey Sissy,

Will fix both those repetitive thingys.

I love Tony, too. When he peed on the tree while lifting his lip at them, I just howled as I typed. I could SEE it as clear as day.

Ah, we'll be seeing more of the dynamic duo shortly.

    Thanks again, m'dear.

    Hugs,
    Gayle

They left Tony guarding the van. I take it that Tony was marking his territory at the tree.

They spoke to Sam but didn't learn too much. They learned he killed his mother and was a scary man who spends most of his time alone.

When they returned to their van, they found an almost carnival atmosphere.

Gayle, why do I think Tony was as disappointed as most of the crowd there was no real action this afternoon? How do you expect the poor baby to keep at the top of his game if all he does is piss on palm trees and sit behind the wheel of the van? Good grief!

LOL! Yes, Jan, I think he was looking for a fight or two. Been quiet in his life for way too long. Let's get it on, he says!

Thanks so much for the great comments, dear one,

It is nice to see Tony get a mention. It makes me wonder how Tom came across Candace in the first place and decided she was to be his mother substitute. Sam sure noticed the resemblance fast.

Best wishes and dreams.

    Metcha Ladies!

I wondered about that myslef. I guess he just saw her shopping or something and glommed onto her like a cheap suit!

Yes, I missed Tony so much I had to write him a special little part, even if it wasn't much in the end.

    Thanks again, much love,
    Gayle
