Fate sometimes takes control of our life. You never know. Wonderful poem, that if you ever meet your birth mother, would only tell her she did the right thing and gave you a wonderful life. Well written. The rhyme was close to perfect other than a couple of lingering s's, but I might suggest since this is an ode that you set up the stanzas in the appropriate way for the reader to realize it is structurally done correctly. Otherwise, no spag or changes to recommend. It is a wonderful tribute to your birth mother and your adopted mother and father. Nicely done.

Thank you for this very kind review. I set it up to read more as a letter, rather than breaking it up into stanzas. I've seen odes done both ways, as with the actual example of the contest. I do appreciate your comments and suggestions. :)

Great poem, showing no anomisity toward your birth mother as you show an understanding of not knowing the situation and what she may have been going through at the time. Very moving and wonderfully expressed.

Oh what a gorgeous poem. You have a wonderful spirit. I have a close friend that adopted both her children and the kids both now that they are almost grown feel like they were abandoned. She feels like they were chosen and gifts but they don't see it that way. Way to go!!! :)

How very lucky you are to have been adopted and raised in such a level headed manner. So many adopted folk lose the sense of their having been given up in love for what, at the time, were very sound reasons, and in searching for their "birth" parents, often lose sight of the love that moved their adoptive parents to take on a child not of their ownflesh and who could have turned out very differently to what they hoped.
Well done to you.

That was beautiful, both your mothers are lucky in you. I hope that poor woman gets to meet you one day, that was a very validating poem for all women who choose adoption. Youre mother (the one who raised you) must be exceptional to, you turned out so well.

Your poem is gracious and understanding. You celebrate you mother's decision to give you up. You understand her reasons. You thank her for the life she allowed you to have.

Hi Dovey This is an exceptional Letter to your birth mom, and I only wish I had more stars to give. You have captured true and raw emotions, and while reading it you want to cry tears of joy because you are indeed a special woman. A lot of adoptive kids hold resentmernt towards the birth parents, and some are eager to go to any length to find their birth parents. You have decided to take a different approach, and look at it as a blessing from God. Some young unwed mothers have abortions and others even kill or throw their babies in a dumpster. I am so glad you had a great life. This is very well written, and the best of luck to you in the contest.love and Blessings, Ida B

I am sure you speak for many adoptees in this ode to your birth mother. How good to give all a voice.

My husband was also adopted as a babe but - that's another story for another day. Glad we have him!

I was very touched by this writing as I knew it came from the heart. Deeply moving, written beautifully both in format of rhyme and descriptive writing. I am a full-time volunteer at a maternity home for unwed mothers, and I see deep emotion and hard decisionmaking every day. God bless each new mother to be able to make the best decision for innocent children. Bless you, your adoptive parents, and your birth mother. LadyMary
