Hello, starkat,
Great choice of pictures.
Great poem, too.
It would have looked a little more complete in the presentation with background box to finish it.
Still, I really like your work.
I am looking at the poems in the voting booth.
I find yours most clever--fun. True. Wow!
Good luck!
Rosy

Glad you liked it, Rosy. When we post these little six worders, they go in as a 'fiction' entry, not poetry, and so we can't put it them in a background box. Thanks for the review. I do appreciate your comments...;-)

    Oh, thanks for telling me.
    That is too bad.
Yes, I tried to put a background color behind one of my short stories.
I rapidly went back into Edit and removed it.
You could still use a background color for the short, one liners and get away with it.
In the prose entry system only the words are background colored. The rest of the page is not--similar to what you can do with an email text control.
I would still consider using a background color to set it apart.
Some sort of photo or drawing would help. too.
I noticed that some managed to get the illustration above the words. This is achieved by using the space bar and Enter key to place the words on the page. It takes some work, but can be done.
On my story, Alien Desires, I had to move the third paragraph down to get it placed for an easier read on the page. (I spent six hours editing that story and the layout in preview mode.)
Those tiny details might not seem important at first, but in the end, they register on the subconscious mind of the viewer.
    Good luck with your work.

Hi Rosy...thanks for all the info. Curious, do you not see the artwork of the dogs playing poker on your computer screen?,,,or, didn't it show up for some reason?.

That's one good thing about the 'Preview" mode is we can play around with moving the text, adding colors, etc. 'till we get it exactly the way we want it. I'm getting better with the advanced editor the more I play around with it.

Yes, I saw the dogs. I thought that I mentioned them.
Of course that is quite a famous painting done from a porcelain sculpture by a Italian artist years ago.
Also, somebody else mentioned that those shorts had to be entered under the narrative story catagory and that prevented boxing the words.
The can have a color background, but I tried tha twith something of mine and it looked aweful.
However, the type size, font and colors can be changed to draw attention to them. The image helped a lot when viewing these entries.
On some, not yours, I a little trouble finding the lines because notes and such were added.
I am an old granny with lazy vision.

Your one liner is course 101 in life. What else can we do but play with the cards we are dealt? I thought of The Gambler before I read your notes. I like this one very much. Best of luck in the contest. Blessings, Linda

Thanks for the review, Linda. This little six worder is probably a bit cliched, but worth thinking about. Glad you liked it....;-)

I think that this is good advise to anyone who is striving to be the best at what they are doing. This is a well written piece. Keep up the good work. I didn't find any errors or misspelled word, which is a relief, there seem to be many missing and misspelled in a lot of the stories I read. Thanks.

I agree entirely. We play the cards we are dealt--but some people don't play their cards, instead folding their hand over and over again--no bluffing, no judicious wagering--just folding.

Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for the review, Steve. Yep..some people are content with folding, not playing the cards they're dealt, or even acknowledging the game...c'est la vie. It's hard to understand why they can't at least make an effort.

    I appreciate the comments..
    Be well,

I like the picture with the words, but it felt more like something I've heard before. It felt used even though I like it you know? Pretty good.

Thanks for the review, Wilder. I guess it did come off sounding a bit cliched...several reviewers have pointed this out. Glad you enjoyed the picture/word combination....;)

Yes we do but this does not ring very original in thought- for it's a bit cliche' and heard many times before- Write on- And I love that picture now if I can only find it on velvet1- haha Di

Hi Di...Thanks for the review... That artist did about 14 paintings of dogs playing poker ...some of the originals went for hundreds of thousands of dollars. I think they're sitting in museums somewhere...you can google 'Dogs playing poker'...lots of places sell prints ..though I'm not sure about velvet.. Elvis may have used up all the velvet...;-)

starkat, you've chosen one of my all-time favorite pictures to go with these six words on which we could base our life story ~ we simply played the hands we were dealt the best we knew how; then walked proudly away from the table as a lady/gentleman should. good luck in the contest

Some do, but not everyone. However, with that being said, it's a very good, complete story in six words which is true for most of us, fortunately or not!

Hi Jude...Thanks for reviewing this little six worder. These words are simply something to ponder...I think perhaps some are not consciously aware of the games being played and the hands they are dealt. Happiness can still reign, nevertheless...In retrospect, we can look back and see if we couldn't of played our hands a bit differently..
