Diane,

This is an excellent one-liner, although I don't think much of one-liners in general. But your author notes say a lot in a short space. The one number you forgot to mention is the chloresterol number. Recent studies have suggested that some drugs sold to lower chloresterol numbers may do only that and contribute nothing to longevity or health.

This is great, Mrs. KT. I love your notes just as much as the contest entry, especially the the size 12:). How right you are! But I would go even farther than just numbers - and propose that contentment seems to be a childish thing in today's world - and that's a tragic loss. all the best in the contest.

Your author notes are worthy of the best I can give. How true, making comaprisons with what people do and don't have is absurd. We can't take nothing with us when we die. We're all equal then.

Great phrase.

Hi Mrs. KT...This is a great contest entry...too much of society is obsessed with numbers...and happiness cannot be defined by numbers....and a society that uses numbers as a yardstick for happiness cannot be very happy or healthy as their values are out of kilter. Lots of wasted energy can be found in playing the numbers games.

Enjoyed your poem, and the notes which bring the number games into perspective...our numbers infatuated society may never realize that it takes zero numbers to be happy..
Also...excellent picture and presentation...

This should be a strong contender in the contest...
Good luck..
Be well, ...be happy

How well you capture the consumer materialistic society in which we live! Happiness is an "inside" job is what you are saying, but you say it so poetically. I always thought "he who dies with the most toys win" was a terrible saying, but that is about counting, too. Thank you for this wonderfully didactic poem. It is truly appreciated.

Alvin! Hello! So good to hear from you! It has been a long time, Friend. I am not atall familiar with the quotation you cite; that is wretched, indeed. I very pleased that you enjoyed my offering. I just may develop it into an essay of sorts. Take Care diane

You hit the nail on the head with this one. After your explanation, I understood the picture. I would have used a scale or a couple of dollar bills and coins scattered on the table, depending on what you wanted to emphasize. You are really good with concise wording.

A short statement but true.
True happiness comes from within the heart and the soul of which we have one of each.
I didn't really know how to review and grade such a short statement so I rated your Author notes instead - hope that's allowed.
For the record - I have 1 wife, 4 daughters, 1 son and numerous grandchildren (or so it seems).
Good luck in the contest
Warm regards
Lawrie

diane,
you speak the truth here. and i know exactly where you are coming from. my hubby is like that gal. i am just a 45 year old, 2nd husband (LOL - definitely a story behind that one) 1 child, 2 adult children, 2 cats (but the rest of the neighborhood feeds here as well), 1 dog, 1 fake fireplace (yuck~), 1 home and god forbid i actually ever find out my true size. i stopped buying new clothes four and a half years ago when the daughter came along. but i know it aint a 0 anymore ... gal. money is not the root of happiness. one can have enough of everything but love and support.
love,
barbara

Your author's note was as good or better than the statement it explains . . . I wholeheartedly agree and think you should consider submitting the author's note, with the contest one liner as a beginning quote or title, to a magazine publisher. Your signature line is a great clincher, too. : )

Happiness is one of the true untangible things that has no measurement in either time, money or anything else. Good post.
