Very emotional story. Your story really touched my heart. A lot of people don't understand about being an organ donor and how it can help someone continue to live and have a normal life.I am glad your son is okay and had a chance at life because of someone's unselfishness. Good choice of artwork. Ida B

Hello Ida B! Thank you for taking the time to read and review this contest entry that's so close to my heart. My son was very lucky...instead of being put on a list and having to wait years for a kidney, he had a list of people willing to donate one of their kidneys to him. Thank you!

Wow Indy. Your sentence story had impact without the author's notes, but once reading the author's notes, I was teary. How wonderful that everything worked out for Kellen, and yes everyone should consider being an organ donor.

Hello Judian! I'm glad you had the chance to look this one over and I'm thrilled with your wonderful review and rating. We're very lucky because Kellen didn't have to be put on a waiting list for a kidney...he had a list of people willing to donate one of their's to him. He'll need another transplant someday since he was young for the first one, and there's a chance his disease will affect his transplanted kidney...we're hoping it's years to come.

What makes this piece more interesting is the author notes. This is information that should be out there, but for whatever stupid reason, it is not. People should know this, it would benefit the waiting person and it might be what the prospective donor needs to hear to push him to actually give of him or herself. Cheers in the contest, Don

Hello to you, Don! Thank you very much for taking the time to look this over and for writing such a kind and caring review. There's many reasons why people fear donating an organ, but I'd just like people to know that giving as a living donor is a procedure much easier than it was in the past. Also, many states are beginning to honor the wishes of the donor and not rely on the consent of a family member. So many donor's wishes were not granted because of a family member's opinion about donation. I'm so glad that is changing. Thanks, Don!

A languid strum starts this fragile universal piece .A dainty hand holds these glass words by the fluted stem and swirls. This has legs ,it is thick as it bleeds down the sides of the glass slowly, filling the bottom with sweet goodness and hard sad loneliness. This is a serious outbreak of emotion from a crushed thing, laying lifeless beneath the spinning wheels of a calloused lover, the stark pain and anger are brilliantly interplayed against the soft gleaming perfectly placed words!

I.I.,
Years ago, after years of painful dialysis, my aunt finally received a kidney that was viable. It is so simple to fill out a donor card, yet so few do so. Thank-you for bringing attention to such an important subject.
Great writing & an excellent choice of artwork.

I wish you well in the contest.

Chris

Hello Chris! Thanks for the read and the kind review. I agree with you...it's an easy thing to do but so many people fear being a donor--either living or non-living. There have been some changes that make it an easy prodecure and now many states are not requiring the consent of a family member to grant the wishes of a donor. So many times in the past, a person's wish to donate was not granted because of a family member's opinion about donation. I'm glad that's changing.
    Thanks!

Hello Kyle! Thanks for the read, your kind review, and for your suggestion to make this better. I suppose the difference is putting the focus on the gift or the donor..I'll honestly think about that, K. I'll take your 2 cents anytime you wanna give it :>)
    Thanks!

A simple sad and truthful statement you made my friend. And one decision I have noted on my Alabama licensee--but everyone who wishes to donate should have their next of kin understand your wishes. If you died, the doctors are require by law to ask next of kin before doing anything--if they say "no", then your final wish will never happen.

A great way of letting people know the facts my friend. Wonderfully written.

Hello PT! Thanks for the read and your kind review! But more importantly...thanks for wanting to be a future donor! Many states are now changing the law and not requiring the consent of a family member before donation is performed. So many donor's wishes went ungranted because of a family member's opinion about donation. I'm so glad that's changing! Thanks,

Maybe Alabama will change also. When I start the process of a new license issuance, we're require to ask (which I think is good)--but if the person is 18 or younger, we can't. Too many parents got upset at us for asking the teenagers--but they can tell us to put it on there if they wish. Someone told me GA gives a slight discount on their license if you are a donor (not sure how true that is though).

I, personnally, see it as--I'm already gone, not using it, so give someone else a chance at life.

Hello shelley kay! Thank you for your kind review. Athanks for eing a future donor, too! Many states are now not requiring the consent of a family member if your license says you want to be a donor. So many people in the past did not have their wishes granted because of a family member's opinion about donation. I'm glad that's not being considered. Thanks!

IndianaIrish,
That definitely is a six word story that changed your son's
life and your life forever. It is wonderful when people donate their
organs to help someone else live. Good luck on the contest.

Hello heyjude! Thanks for your kind comments and I'm glad to read your review. Another member thought organ donation is just a procedure and not a miracle...it'll always be a miracle to me.
    Thanks!
