Comment from Paradox Tremors
Exploration of space has helped us in many ways--to name one, preserving food for longer periods of time. But I will agree not as much should be spent on space exploration as there should be on helping all of mankind.

I like your thoughtful poem, Monte. But please don't blame the space program for wasting money. NASA spends less in a year than the military spends in a day. And we have learned many valuable things from space research, including medical gains and better food production. The day may come when we will need to nudge an asteroid off a collision course with the Earth. Without the technology, we could be looking at extinction. Wars, though, are a different story. What a waste of money and human lives!

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Space exploration should certainly take a back seat to all the problems facing our beautiful planet. This is a very thought-provoking piece written with a poet's heart. Excellent. Blessings, Linda

That was very meaningful. Not many people know what the government is really spending money on. Especially kids. I agree the money should be spent on poor environments rather than war.

Hullo Earthwriter .....
What you have said in this work, is so very true.
From a writing point of view, you have got good rhyming but,
to really enhance this, you would need to work on your metre and thus your rhythm.
Whenever I look at a Fireworks Display on television, I think of how far the thousands of pounds or dollars that such brief displays cost, could go towards building homes for
those living out on the streets. Whenever I read of
Space Exploration, like you - again, my thoughts turn to the fact that people in this world of plenty, die from starvation.
Those with the power of decision-making could do so much
to ensure that whatever money is available is spent for the benefit of mankind and especially those battling to stay alive
or to find shelter such that they can call it home, rather than
just ploughing millions into extra-terrestrial adventures.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
With love from ....... Nanette Mary.

You really sent out a powerful message in this piece. And it's all true. Many times so many homeless are ignored because government and even humans ignore their problem. Powerful imagery good job!

Comment from Victoria...
I think we need both. We need the inspiration of space exploration as well as the information it provides. As we run out of resources, we must look outward. Asteroid mining, zero gravity experiments, and many other things. On the other hand, I think if we took all the money we spend on WAR and spent it to save people rather than kill them, we'd be much better off. But the fact that I'm sitting here ranting at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning shows your poem is thought provoking and to me, that is the most important thing a poem can be.

Great poem and it says so much. Well written and easy to read and appreciate. You are so right that we need to do more here on earth than in space. We also spend trillions on war and even rebuilding other countries but can't help our own. Well done. Thanks, Jeanette

you have an excellent message in this well written verse
on the governments lack of compassion for the poor
this poem laid it all down in plain language
we need voices such as this to raise the ire of the populous
this was my pleasure to have read and reviewed this well written verse... John
