This is an effective reminder of the ravages of a terrible time in history. May man never forget! The poem is effective with its rhyming scheme and format, stark as it should be Well done. JeffreyStone

Hi Curt,
These are truly disturbing imagery you have penned here, but very well chosen and expressed.
The internal rhyme is excellent and made reading this work most enjoyable, as the rhythm was very smooth.

Struggled to think of quite the right words to describe the impact of this quality piece of work, I think if anything it was 'Lest we forget!'
"A train ride to genocide, go inside..." creates awful imagery!
If you don't know where the piece came from then perhaps it was one of those rare pieces that just needed to be written.
Brilliant!

Just a quick note to re-assure you that when I used the term 'awful' it was most definately used in a positive manner - so to speak!
kind of difficult to use certain adjectives with certain content as they just don't sit right somehow?
all the best - great work!
Neil.

I really enjoyed this poem and it is a genre I usually skip as I do not find it overly interesting. I likehow this poem transcends the ages and all can understand the waste of war.

Whatever it was that inspired you to write this, this is really excellent. The internal rhyming and the flow, combined with the incredibly vivid imagery - the whole piece is just amazing. You are right on the mark with your descriptions of the horrors, and with the accompanying artwork - this is great.

This looks like it took a lot of thought and a lot of time to complete. I believe the third stanza is the best. Great imagery and action, and the flow beats the best. Still the whole poem obviously kept you working. Good Job.

Train ride to genocide, go inside,
bodies fried, tombs to share the stinking air,
bones are bare, burnt skin sags in body bags,
soldier gags, guts spill, vultures fill.
Yep. I just watched a documentary on it. Gruesome.
Then there's the occasion when the Japanese were losing in the Philippines and decided to do a cleaning out. And the holocaust in China when they temporarily won the war. Somehow we don;t hear as much about that one..er..two ...er...three.
Then there were the Poles who were eradicated for being Poles.
The Jewish nation is a history revealed and held in very high esposure but only one in a sea of red that goes back through the ages, to Armenia to Herod's cleanup of all Jewish males, perhaps the worst one of all. Thankfully one Santanic plot that didn't work out and left open some hope for the human race.

Thank you for your insightful comments. I realize there are so many attempts at genocide the world over. I chose this form, or rather, it chose me, to be the conduit for the message. I'm truly happy you enjoyed it.

This is great, and obviously came from somewhere very deep within. Graphic and heart wrenching to even think one human could be so heartless netherlone an entire country.
Well done, you`ve definately set the theme and the message.

Thank you. I didn't want to gloss it over, it is not something that should be. It was and is a terrible atrocity, and to look at it honestly is the best way to prevent it from repeating.
Thanks for your kind comments.

I don't remember the Holocaust but I sure do remember the terrible odor just outside of Dakau when I visited there. Other people with me thought I was crazy. The movies I've seen and even some people I've talked with who lived through it makes me realize that it did happen and that it should never be forgotten.
Your poem reads easily with so much rhyme. The meter is good and the rhythm is halting making your words hit at the heart. Good work.
