Well, sir. I thought it was excellent. Although I must admit at times I had trouble with some wording in it. I had to re-read it a few times and only then managed to see the whole depth of your thoughts. It most likely not the poem's problem, but rather one of mine. I am not a fast reader and it takes me 2 or 3 readings to get to the bottom of things.

Yes, it is a poem that has a multivalence of meaning, and layered poems like it sometimes require two or three readings. As a note, as a professional reviewer, I often read quite a bit of literature three times (once for the content, twice analytically) before I write a review. Thanks for a good review.

a poem that turns inward to the poet
this poem has some very good imagery in its lines of thought
and it seems to flow well from line to line
I liked the inward thinking in this piece of poetry
this was my pleasure to have read and reviewed it... John

Hi Alvin,

I really enjoyed the message this piece conveys to the reader. We have placed the fear in our own children's minds through stories of the scary. I like how the ending is pertinent to how fear is conjured by what we hear even if it's our imagination that creates it.

Hi Alvin
Stunning presentation. Artwork so appropiate. I am giving it a six star, regardless of the following comment. I may be wrong and throw the comment out the door if you wish! I would not call this children's poetry. It's poetry about children, to me. It is too complex...my view only, but it is still an exceptional poem. Marion.

Yes, I wondered about that, although all but the third quatrain are written with the voice of a child. How do you think I should classify it? Thanks for the six stars; I really appreciate them.

You've hit it out of the ball park as usual, Alvin

First, you teach me about poetry

Second, you spin wonderful, vibrant images in my mind ( and in this case to a scary time in my youth)

Third, I always like your hidden editorials or twists - Who had the nerve to tell the innocent
About malignant ghosts,

Again - well done

Michael

Hello dear Alvin,

I would easily say this is one of my favorites from your pen! It is brilliant in its conception and execution and poignant in feeling and depth. So well done. Bravo, my friend and God Bless.
I will not be on the site any longer, but you know where to reach me if you need.

"Who had the nerve to tell the innocent
About malignant ghosts,"

Who indeed? and with what degree of right?

Adieu, mon Cher.
Many blessings,
Ami

Thank you. Coming from a poet of your caliber, that means a lot to me. I shall miss you very, very much. Thanks again, especially for the six stars--they mean a lot to me coming from you.

I do not care about all the rules you wrote in your author notes. It means nothing to me.

I base my review on what I think about what you said and wrote.

the words have to have meaning to me.

I think this was written very good and describes the fear we feel as children about the world at night and in our life.

Very wel written poem. The structure makes it powerful and memorable.
I like the tone, the interior pictures come alive with your words.
Oh, I am so glad not to be a child, afraid, of all the unknown.
Now I just cross my fingers and toes, hoping they don't ever appear........ LOL
Very well done.
Good luck in the contest. This is very good.

Thank you very much for such a good review and understanding the word pictures I wanted to convey and the hard work I put into the structure.
