What a fine tribute to a brave loved one. Poetry or prose, it rings true with lave and acceptence of death and the vagaries of life, but not defeat. Slainte, rhymer1

it's so sad and so unique poem
every line and every word is so well working and admirable
it's so real and it's so awfully incredible, because so true and so well written and expressed
theme is absolutely wonderful
"fruit cake" is a figure that is adding a lot of value to this work, so affective
one of the best poems ever written,
also written in tetractys format, and tetractys very well arranged with syllable count
presentation is highly good
no any error
thanks for writing
cheers!!!!!!!!

I love the tetractys form--and all the more when it is in a suite of t hem---forward and reversed--it presents as well on thepage as does your heart tugging patriotic theme....made all the more moving as it is biographical!

Wow
That looks gorgeous on the page. Tetractys can really draw the eye for visual effect.
Your poem is touching without getting wishy washy.
Just lovely.

Freedom is never free and it comes at the highest of costs.
A tribute to one who fell not in the heat battle, but
as a result of the tragedies caused by war..
Thank you for sharing this.

This really made me cry. I haven't read anything on this site that has hade the power to do that until now. This is a great tribute to your uncle and your father. You did them both proud. Beth

The format came up perfectly on my browser and its a beautiful poem both visually and "poetically."
I caught myself putting my hand to my mouth while reading the last line: "To discard would be to accept defeat. "
The flow and rhyme of this poem was great and I really enjoyed reading about your uncle.
The poem stands upright all by itself but takes on higher meaning after reading your authors notes. I'm glad you wrote this and hope you get many reads. It deserves it.

I don't know much about poetry, but I understand the sentiment and valor our servicemen provided. What a sacrifice. I didn't notice any outstanding errors.

I like this poem.
It sent chills down my spine.
I like the structure of it.
No SPAG errors noted.
Thank you for the historical background.
I do not know how my uncle died
but he died in the same war. Who knows,
maybe they were on the same ship. I know
how the loss makes you feel.
