Very clever! I remember walking with my youngest grandson years ago (he was four or five at the time) -- We heard the constant tap-tap-tap of a woodpecker and I was excited to point the bird out to him. He took it in stride. He put his chubby little hands on his waist and yelled up "Stop knocking -- your friend isn't home!"

I've seen the Rosetta Stone in the British museum. It's mysterious and fascinating. Our resident woodpecker can be quite noisy. Now I have to look at him as a scholar hard at work!

Oh, they love to peck on the dead tree that once lived on my property. They migrated to my neighbor's dead tree. Wonderfully written and illustrated in short verse poetry. Send you my best today as always and my very best wishes in the contest.

I had to smile at this poem because about a week ago a woodpecker was pounding on my bathroom window sill while I was in the room and I thought it was my husband outside being a pain and I was yelling at him to stop the pounding lol I walked out of my room and there he stood looking concerned about my mental health. Woodpeckers can be a real problem. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your personal experience. Fortunately, humans do talk to each other. The pecks, I do not know what they are communicating about except they are looking searching for food.

I read a fascinating book about how the scientists went about deciphering the Rosetta Stone and theircassimptions about the missing fragments. In my only visit to the British Museum, I saw the Elgin Marbles and the Rosetta Stone.
Sometimes my alliterations are not consciously constructed. Thanks for reminding me about my line two.
I hear the woodpeckers in my neighborhood but rarely, if ever, see them.
