An excellent question and subject, peace on earth would be an amazing achievement, and I like your idea of writing before these wars start instead of the end, very well written, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

An excellent entry for the Dear God contest. Great messages in this poem but my favorite is in the final lines.

Sadly, treaties are written
to end a war instead
of being writ afore they begin.

Great idea but don't think it will ever catch on. Thanks for sharing. Good luck.

As for the idea, maybe I should mail it to Iran and their allied Hamas friends. I find it amazing Israel being condemned but nothing is said in the U.N. as to what provoke their retaliation.

Did you actually use 'heretofore' in a sentence? Wow! Call me impressed. (amazed face here)
Nicely done. Prayer is the answer, even when the only change is within ourselves.
Good luck in the contest.

I try?.. to amaze but it rarely works. Therefore, which is related to heretofore, I was pleased to reach the pinnacle of my moniker - Amazin? Tom but not from being a fan of the Mets

This was a wonderful piece of writing. Full of the age old questions and some relatively new ones as well. I doubt mankind is smart enough to figure this out on his own. We tend to hide behind the truth. We hide behind flags, religion and rights. We are a warring people. Good luck in the contest. Gretchen

I enjoyed reading your poem. I think as long as the devil is left to roam, there will be evil. It would be nice if the leaders of the world would just be happy with their nation. I like the picture. Well written. Very good job.

There will not be peace on earth until Jesus establishes His kingdom of righteousness, justice and love, a time when all will bow the knee to Him and He will reign. Until then,:en promote their own p self righteousness. Thoughtful piece.

That likely is so, and yet peace reigns where the spirit abides, and we, individually, can have peace within us knowing what you have stated.

"Can there be peace on earth" is a wish we all hope and pray for will someday happen. But sadly, there always has been, and will always be monsters like those you've mentioned. Thanks for sharing.

You have written a nice poem, but there are some things I've never read in my BIble, and I'm bit curious if you don't mind my asking. First, why would Angels, who have superior spiritual bodies and aren't inprisoned by them as humans are in ours, ever want to to be reborn into to a human body. The Bible says they are of higher order than us. That would be huge step down. My second question has to do with where did you come up with the idea Cain and Abel had a sister twin rather than being twins of each other. I have other questions but I hope you will clear up these for me.

by a quick study Angels have 9 levels of rank. They may be higher than "mortals' but post resurrection Christians reads mortals will judge the angels. Not a concern for me at this point. My focus is getting right to return to the presence of Father and Son. as for...

Twins in the Bible - Chabad.org reads - "It is a well-known fact that Jacob and Esau were twins, but what is not commonly known is that Cain and Abel were also twins. In the normal Hebraic accounting of multiple births the conception then birth of each child is mentioned such as we can see in Genesis 29:32-33 where it states that Leah conceived and bore a son, and then she conceived again and bore a son. Note that there are two conceptions and two births. But notice how it is worded in Genesis 4:1-2.
Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain; And again, she bore his brother Abel. (RSV)
Notice that there is only one conception, but two births. The Hebrew word for "again" is asaph, meaning to add something, in this case the birthing of Abel was added to the birthing of Cain. Cain and Abel were twins.

Hello Tom,
you've tackled a question that has plagued mankind for years I suppose. Personally, I don't think there can be any kind of lasting peace when man tries to come up with the plan. Look at the UN. What a waste of time and resources. All the things that are happening now are, in my opinion, preparing us to accept the Anti-christ, one who will promise peace but who intends to replace God as the authority of the world. Will there be peace on the earth, when Christ returns, yes.
I'm curious where you got the information that Caine and Abel had twin sisters. I've never read that in the bible.
Interesting piece here Tom. Good luck in the contest.
Blessings,
Tom

Well, I googled it and asked if Cain and Abel were twins. The answer forthcoming was as written, then I revisited it when you asked where and found another source that states - The Midrash tells us that Cain was born with a twin sister and Abel was born with two sisters. They each married the sister who was born with them (though a third reference stated they married the others twin, making better sense. And as to why Cacin slew his brother it further said it was as who would get the second sister of Abel's that led to why Abel was killed. Who is to know? I suspect if and when there is a heaven we will fnid out answer to many vagaries.

This poem gives a reader a lot to think about. I especially like the ending about writing treaties before the conflict, not after. But it is ultimately not hopeful, since conflict has been with us since premortal times, and "peace occurs when men concur," which seems impossible based on the wide variety of points of view created by diverse experiences. Interesting!
