Well that was a surprise I struggled to work out where you were going with it, realisation was pleasant. I am new to Flash and I am trying to read as much as possible. I have been converting some of my poetry into Flash but need to know more to do it well. Thanks for sharing.

There's always a lot of story to cram into a very few words.... It's fun but can become tricky. Thanks for stopping by.

This is a very complete and lovely way for someone to discover, a little too late the thank those who love him, that he was a special person. You used every one of your seventy-five words to good effect.

Yes, too often we take it for granted that others know how we feel about them when actually they really might not know. A smile, a hello, a have a great day can go a long way.

I wish everyone could see themselves as other see them before it's too late. I am glad that your character got a second chance to see that. You did a great job with this flash fiction. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

I, too, wish people could see how others see them and maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't have so many desperate to commit suicide.

I enjoyed reading your story. I have a hard time writing 100 words stories. Very good job with using 75 words. Story was quite imaginative. Well written

Thanks for stopping by to read the flash, Brenda. I believe too few people actually know how much they mean to others. Life gets busy and too often we assume they just know. Sometimes a smile, a hug, a kind word can mean more than we will ever know.

this is an excellent entry for the 75 words Flash Fiction contest. Concise story within the limited word count. Nice twist ending that wasn't foreseen. Let's hope the ending is true for us all and that it won't be out last chance to touch the hearts of those we love, Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much, Marilyn. I fear so many people don't really know who well they are appreciated and loved because we live in a busy world and forget to stop and smell the roses. A simple smile, a kind gesture, a token gift can change a person's whole world.

This story is a heart-wrenching one. You have told a complete story with the few words allowed. Excellent writing. The story flows nicely to the conclusion. Best of luck in the contest.

Thanks, April. I feel too many people leave this world wondering exactly what they meant to others and if they will even be missed. A simple smile, a kind gesture, a few words and a hug can make the difference.

I've often felt this when I've attended five funerals of family members who've committed suicide. If they'd only known! If we'd only made them see and feel how important they were in our lives and how treasured! I'll never stop feeling like I missed a chance to save them.
What a thoughtful flash...

Five suicides...how dreadful and what pain the family must suffer. I do believe that we need to stop and let others no, if even in small ways, that their lives mean something to others. Thank you for your kindness as always.

I agree. So often, regardless how we relive the past, there are signs we see only in hindsight.

We usually don't see ourselves as others see us. There are people who see themselves as greater, smarter, even better looking than others see them. However, in many cases people think less of themselves than others think of them. Your short flash clearly demonstrates this point. Best wishes in the contest.

I wish when we looked into a mirror each morning that it would announce that we are loved and appreciated by our friends and family and it is important to give our best. So many tragedies happen because they didn't know their self worth.

Yes, you are so right with this one. People often see us in a different life than we see ourselves. But who are they going to believe? Me . . . or their lying eyes? :-) Thanks for sharing. I hope all my foolishness isn't sometimes misplaced and in bad taste. I just have a tendency of trying to lighten the moment even in the most heartbreaking or serious of times. I've rethought my reference to dog doo on one's shoes, and wanted to make myself stand in a corner with a dunce cap.
