This was a very sweet story entry for the 200 Word Flash writing prompt. Sometimes the teddy bears and dolls that listen to our childrens sorrows and secrets are the ones that help them the most. They allow the child to work things out in their own mind while thinking they are confiding in a friend. Nicely written. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much for your kind review and comments. Life is difficult enough but when a child doesn't understand what's happening, their world becomes frightening. I'm glad that some children can find comfort in the inanimate teddy bear.

It is impossible for young children to understand the separation of their parents. It's always someone's fault. Interesting is this story is the fact that Jimmy fell asleep and had a dream where his unconscious mind gave him adult advice, explaining that parents argue but still love you. The good news is, he woke up feeling better. Teddy would always be there. Best wishes in the contest.

Wouldn't it be wonderful as a child or an adult that we could go to sleep hugging our teddy bear and be comforted or get the understanding we need to make it through the difficult times? I wish upon a star!!! Thanks for reading my flash and enjoying it. have a great day!

This is a good flash. It reminds me of the way children really do react to things that make them hurt. I can remember myself as a child when I was usset and frustrated with my parents, grabbing a big teddybeat and feeling that I was being comforted. Sometimes I grabbed the dog and he would let hug him and cry until I felt better.

If only life was so easy. The comfort of a teddy bear who always understands, comforts, and remains loyal is to be cherished. Nicely written through the eyes of a child. Best wishes for the contest.

Yes, Wendy, we both wish that hugging a teddy bear would make life so much easier and help us understand even as adults. But for a child, those comforting moments and little explanations would make their journey so much easier. Have a great day!

It sounds like the child that had that very same revelation, 'when I hug my teddy all seems right with the world. When parents split, it doesn't matter for what reason, the innocent loses some building blocks from his fortress. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

Though his parents still loved him, the young boy didn't feel that love, but luckily found it with his loyal teddy bear. What luck that Teddy could speak!!
Thanks for the kind review and comments.

This piece of flash fiction was so sweet and also sad. One thing: You referred to Jimmy as Tommy in that last sentence. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

thanks for catching that mistake for me. I started out calling him Tommy and decided Tommy and Teddy would be too close. Guess I missed one. Too bad Teddy didn't whisper my mistake to me too! LOL

It's difficult to understand as adults and there is no way children can make heads or tails out of the situation. They just know their world is turned upside down. Thank heavens Teddy was there to comfort him. Smiles!

The narrative effectively captures Jimmy's fear and sadness through his actions and dialogue. The dialogue between Jimmy and his mother feels genuine, and inclusion of Teddy as a source of comfort and solace for Jimmy adds depth to the story.

This is a strong piece. Good luck.
