Hi Tom
This is a well written rant on sex and violence in film and books. I think this and the NRA blocking gun control laws both add to the violence in this world along with very violent video games. Some people can take this in and not have it lead I to copy the behavior and some can't.
I think your tone in you last paragraph sounds harsh. I don't think that reading books with gay relationships in them is going to make kids be gay or accept that life style if they aren't prone to it. I also lets them see that it is in the world and to try to help them in a loving way to change if they can.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Happy Easter.
Joan

Excellent, though I must remind that we have a choice of what we watch, violence and swear words were around well before cinema, like many of these films you refer too, there are just as many that deliver a very important message, choice is freedom not force, a very interesting read****kahpot

I don't disagree; however compared to when we were young, and soap washed our mouths for saying gosh darn, can't we be the frog in the pot unnoticing that the temperature is rising until we're d e a d ?

Totally agree. The world of cinema and movies must share a huge part of the responsibility for the decaying of morals and appreopriate behaviour. Sin is no longer calledd sin - it is the norm, and one is "narrow-minded" and discriminatory if one speaks up against it. Well said. I rarely watch movies now - it's all either bloodshed or other immorality.

History has taught us nothing. Rome, Athens, Babylon, all decayed from within after they conquered the world.

Hi Tom,
I do like to watch a good movie, its just that there are so few offered anymore. The last movie we went to see at the local theatre was Killers of the Flower Moon. It was exceptionally violent and made my blood boil, but it was based on true events. I had read the book before and knew what to expect, but the cruelty and greed were still hard to watch. We have five dollar matinees here, but every time I go to see what's playing, the vast majority is all fantasy or some foolish thing. You're right, the morals in this country have taken a dump, in part because not enough people speak out against what's happening. The liberal press wants you to believe that everyone is just as twisted as they are, and if you speak out against them, they somehow make you look like a jerk. That's OK, I don't mind being called names, as long as I'm standing for my beliefs. Well done buddy.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

What happened to our world and the respect we once had for our elders, people in charge, and people in general? The world seemed to run smoother when we said the Pledge of Allegiance and it wasn't a crime to say One Nation Under God. How did porn and disrespect become more important than morals and respect? Well done....

You are correct. Movies, video games, TV, and even TV commercials rip away at our principles of right and wrong behavior. How about same sex kissing advertisements? Are they good or not good, or just expressions of modern reality? I remember when my public school day began with the teacher reading the Bible. Those days are long gone.

Hi Tom, your writing speaks for many people. Yes, the ticket prices at the movies are soaring along with the violence and everything else. How else can they afford to pay the actors such obscene amounts of money? The world has gone mad and our leaders are facilitating it. I'll stop here or else I'll be ranting on your parade. Timely writing. Margaret

I agree with you. There is very little morally good about the movies produced in Hollywood. Many are lacking in plot but are watched by those who enjoy pornography. I just the morals of our children are being affected by what they watch. I don't put all the blame on Hollywood. TV shows and lyrics in songs have their share of blame. I also think getting assault riffles out of the hands criminals is a good idea. That has nothing to do with the second amendment. I don't like the idea of banning books but some shouldn't be school libraries. As far as gay and lesbians, I don't understand them and I can't imagine anyone deliberately choosing that lifestyle. Since it makes no sense to me, I'm not in a place to judge because if they were born that way, it isn't theit choice and it doesn't seem fair to shame them for something they didn't choose.

You make a good argument that standards are slipping and no-one seems to care. I agree wholeheartedly, and place a lot of the blame on the readily available internet - any fraudulent information can be readily transmitted. kay

I abhor Hollywood. It is just an awful place where overpaid grownups get to play pretend and try to tell us more mortals how to live. I don't read too many magazines or actually watch television because it's robs me of time and motivation. Keep them coming. Although, you might get some unwanted feedback on this one. But stand your ground. I applaud your stream of conscience. Gretchen
