Debbie, this is just magnificent. How you pulled the life and history of Edgar Allan Poe into the perfectly metered and rhymed poem is nothing short of astounding. A six for your fine offering. Sending you my best today as always,
Sal XOs

You're so kind, Sal, to even think of doing this when there is no reward as well! This means a lot to me. Bless you, Debbie

Good artwork and nice presentation, Debbie. Poe was one of my favorites to teach. I had an advanced English class, grade 9, and I made this corny tape with all of the sound effects in "The Tell Tale Heart" and read it to them. I loved doing it, and I think the kids enjoyed it, too.
I'll send you a link for a reading of "The Raven" by Neil Gaiman. It is really good.

A good number of years ago, there was a resurgence of interest in Poe. The kids always thought he was crazy and I tried to show them otherwise for how could he write like he did if he was.

You wrote a very good tribute to him, his writing, and his life. I don't think his life was a happy one with the Allan's, but he gave some great stories. You make a very good point at the end with the question you ask. Thanks for sharing all of the notes, as well.

Thank you so much, Pam! I always learn so much from you and you're the only one who's volunteered a view on his madness. I'm afraid I started off thinking I'd call it: A short history on madness (or something). But completely ate my words. Just because he had the insight to write about madness.... Wonderful review! Thank you so much for your time, information and support, all greatly appreciated! Debbie

I learned new things about Edgar Allan Poe through this well-written poem. It's impressive how you were able to write so much about him and still manage to keep a nice meter and also make lines 1 and 3 rhyme as well as lines 2 and 4. That is a feat, in and of itself, and even more so when writing about someone's life because you are more limited in what you can write, so to speak. Lovely work.

Wow! This is another amazing poem where you weave the story of the subject into an amazing tale. I think this is one of your best ones yet. Your notes capture even more of the Poe's story - some of which I knew and some I definitely did not. I learn so much on this site.
I am so pleased that I still have a six. This one should get a 10.

Blessings
Janet

Debbie, Poe is one of my favorites. In fact, I just read a synopsis of his life and works and your words and presentation even outshine what I read about him. A fascinating post and presentation.
Best wishes,
Mary

Good morning Debbie. I hope all is well!! This is a very interesting read and one hits home a bit. Here in Virginia, we have the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond and he lived there and is a local legend as well as famous author. I also copied his style and meter in 'The Raven' and wrote a poem a few years ago. It was all in trochaic and quite a challenge, but fun too. Well done on this masterpiece!!

Good morning, Debbie,
I do believe that your rendering of Poe's life, in this poetic format, is by far my favorite of your exceptionally well-crafted poems I have read thus far.
Poe has always intrigued me; as a young girl, Poe was right behind Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost as my three favorite poets. Quite a diverse trio!
I smiled when I read that Poe disliked didacticism because, in a slight way, I imagine most poetry possess elements of didacticism... if only hovering beneath the surface.
Poe's life, and especially, his death, has always saddened me...And I found it interesting in your Author's Notes the mention of cooping, as this is the first time I have ever run across that term.
Wishing I had six stars in my meager quiver, Debbie. Most deserving.

Thank you for sharing and enlightening!

Thank you so much, Diane, for this lovely, very full and thoughtful review! I nearly put in the notes an apology for my own very obvious didacticism but then thought I wouldn't draw too much attention to it! I'm delighted, however, that you enjoyed this. My, that is a diverse range...and all the better:) Take care Debbie

This poem contains a very succinct and thorough biography. The author's note contains enough context for those who haven't studied Poe's life (like me) and only know the broad strokes. The rhymes were steady and impressive. The story was well told.

What a stunning exploration of Poe's life! It was such a dark, unusual and challenging one. No writer is simply the product of their biography, but there are some clear parallels in his that are fascinating. I wasn't aware of the controversy surrounding his death. Wouldn't it be fabulous if someone could do a retrospective DNA analysis and get us some firm answers? :)

Thank you again, Navada! I really concur with that line: "No writer is simply the product of their biography." Like so much, it's all open to interpretation which makes reading different biographies often so confusing. Your thoughts are much appreciated. Debbie
