The sea horsers are such gorgeous and fascinating little creatures, even without Daddy's hidden talent of giving birth. I love this presentation as you watch and admire one of Nature's gorgeous creatures.
cheers Elaine,

Hi there.

You have given us a pretty poem about one of the wonders of nature. Even the weird and wonderful appearance of the seahorse is a thing to marvel at, let alone that it is the male who incubates the eggs and apparently gives birth to the young of the species.

You let your imagination run with your thoughts about his thoughts!

Thanks for sharing.

Steve

Yes isn't nature a wonder? Just when we think we've got it all worked out, it does a sudden left turn, and where are we now? Puzzled and amazed that our comfort is discomfited, well done Elaine, blessings Roy,

Seahorses are amazing sea creatures and with have them in the Thames in London. They cleaned it and reporte that seahorses have now found a home, I enjoyed your sweet words here as these creatures seem to have only one gender, love Dolly x

Hello Elaine,
I used to have an aquarium, but it was a freshwater one. I enjoyed it immensely. I've always thought seahorses were a fascinating creature. I wonder how many an average aquarium can support. They eat seaweed or plankton don't they? Thanks for sharing this.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Seahorses eat live brine shrimp. I imagine they would be challenging to maintain in an aquarium. Thanks for taking time to read and review. Elaine

Miracle indeed, a rare scene of nature, but also something we can say is possible. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and may the inspiration be with you today.

Sounds like you have been reading People Magazine! Ha!

Seriously, this is an interesting creature in nature.

Your line about eating his kids got a chuckle. Interesting poem!

This is a cool idea for a poem. I too find the phenomenon of male sea horses rearing their young to be fascinating. I particularly like the last stanza--this is where the poem exhibits some musicality in its use of consonance, which even in free verse is very important.

I love that about seahorses that the fathers are the ones who give birth. I wonder how it feels when the females transfer the babies to the males. Such a nicer situation than many animals where the males just leave after the female gets pregnant! Thanks for sharing your lovely nature poem!

I've always been fascinated by seahorses, and your poem perfectly captures their beauty and mystery. The role of the male in seahorse society has always interested me, and I love how you anthropomorphize the seahorse daddy with the questions and emotions of a human father. Your poem is fun and refreshing, and I enjoyed reading it.
