Many years ago, when I was a youngster in the Baptist Church, our Preacher, after making what he thought was a really good point, would say somebody ought to at least say, "Amen!"
So, Amen! Good for you. Your writing is compelling and holds your readers with great pathos. I wish you had entered this in one of the contests. Outstanding. Terry.

Oh my goodness! You should've offered one more visit and let her sit in poop. ;) Usually when people set others up it is so the y can be critical. They say mean things and are critical as a way to work out their own issues. Although it has zero to do with the one they are hurting; the hut is still real. When people are that harpy and critical, you can hear what they thing of themselves because they "project." If she called you dirty, she thinks of herself as a pig, so the only thing she can control is another, not her own pigginess. Trust me that's it.

I have faced the reality of the relationships in my life in the past several years. It is hard to realize that something YOU had such wonderful intentions for, could be so one-sided. It is also very difficult to accept that they are not who we desperately want them to be. Probably part of the reason you let her back.
No critique to offer here, I was captivated by the read.
