Dear friend, this is a great evocation of wonderful city! You have painted a beautiful word picture of Augusta in time and space - so well that I felt I had traveled back in time to your college days. Most of us would wish to be that age again, but in Augusta you were specially blessed. I felt so pleased that you had more innocent times than the sophisticated Atlanta students.
And even in the UK, we love the Masters from Augusta - we have really long highlights as well as live commentary on British tv. I haven't missed it in twenty years - and when will Rory get his wretched green jacket?!

Delightful description of Teentown - it was a young person's paradise, wasn't it? And finishing with Christmas at Saint Paul's and all the candles; that's exactly what my church in London does, so I can imagine it vividly.

You have given all of us a real insight into a famous place in Georgia - and shown us that it has every right to be so. Thank you.
Paul

My goodness, Paul! What an accolade!
I keep some of the responses I receive from FS members that are particularly lovely and meaningful, and yours went there, immediately. I love to go back through and re-read responses from very nice people.
Many, many thanks for everything you said!

Yes I think I grew up in a city that was full of English migrants at that time, a string community spirit existed here, our city was named after Queen Elizabeth and very naive, like, as you say, 'Happy Days' like. Beautifully written, blesskngs Roy

This was a well written tribute to a wonderful sounding home town. Augusta sounds idyllic, really, with a beauty to it and a sense of home town pride to keep it that way.

Being a real golf fan, I've always loved watching The Masters tournament at Augusta National. That has to be the best kept golf course in the world with a standard that none can match, and it shows up beautifully on TV and in photographs. What a treat for you to have experienced it a number of times it sounds like.

Wonderful job of describing this beautiful city. - Jim

Thanks for the lovely review, Jim.
It was fun and I was very lucky. It really was a treat to be able to go so often. We had our favorites we followed. I even got to ride on a float with Arnold Palmer - which he said he would never do again. :)

It sounds utterly wonderful, and to just pop in and out of The Masters sounds amazing. I grew up near Wimbledon (the tennis place) and me and my friends would get cheap late tickets after school. Anyway, this is beautifully described. Thank you for sharing it. I want to live in the southern USA please.

Thank you for your kind words and I'm sure you'd be welcomed.
My father was a physician, and treated the players when needed. However, he did have to buy the family tickets, but he loaned them to me for a couple days, when I had friends home from school - which was great, and my sister got them for a couple days.

This is an excellent story about your home town. I enjoyed reading it. Your entire presentation is good. You use descriptive words that draw in a reader and take us on a tour of your personal memories s bit and also how ñice your town was as you were growing up. Happy Days was my favorite show when I was young. Thank you for sharing this.

Best wishes!

Alexandra

Hello Author,
Augusta sounds like a delightful town, although I personally don't consider a town of 100,000 people small. No doubt it had everything that a person could want or need though. It sounds like you have some wonderful memories of growing up there. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed evening.

Well, it was small in that we weren't what you'd call cosmopolitan, I guess. We were more well grounded. It was a neat place to grow up.
    Thanks, Tom for your comments!

I definitely liked the nostalgia embedded in your narration. You described the essential things one might want to know about a loved hometown, and you did it succinctly but nicely. I learned quite a few things here, like the Masters Golf Tournament! Good luck with the contest!!!
Very well done!
