I read about the underground railroad and Uncle Tom's Cabin and other books but I didn't know about the family of Louisa May Alcott. I'm glad that some of them were able to escape slavery.

Wow! I didn't know that about Louisa May Alcott's family. I thought of her book as soon as I saw your title so that was perfect. Then in so few words, you honed in the dramatic point to share the key elements of the story like a good flash piece should! Best wishes in the contest!

I like that you have chosen to highlight the courage of all concerned in this escape to freedom story. I had not known that our "Little Women" were part of this history.

I enjoyed this creative bit of fiction describing one of the types of things that transpired along the historical Underground Railroad. Many people in private homes and churches, assisted runaway slaves by providing food, temporary shelter, clothing, and transportation. I liked the way you started the story with four young ladies in the parlor. Best wishes in the contest.

I am glad that people helped these slaves find freedom, it must have been a terrifying time for them. Imagine being owned by someone, I cannot believe such a dreadful thing happened to people back then. I enjoyed your story June, love Dolly x x x

This could be some serious foreshadowing, the reader will lean forward for sure. Was this a code phrase: ""Could you spare a cup of chicken broth." This is wonderful. On a re;lated subject:
did you see the scammy movie called The Underground Railroad. After I became incensed about it I realized it was some kind of a fantasy movie. They even have a railroad train in it so it's very disturbing when we know the reality of things.

Having visited the Wayside in Concord years ago, I knew that the Alcotts used their home to help a slave escape to freedom. The home is now part of the history of the Underground Railroad.
What you wrote here is well-told and well-written about the events surrounding the Alcotts helping slaves escape into Canada.
Best wishes,
Mary
