Family. Especially Southern families, aren't just close, they are attached like leeches. And through the super rumor, outright lie, half truth, and actual truth network, they usually know what's going on before you do.
On the other hand, there is all that great food, and playing 42, and spades, and getting fresh vegetables right off the vine.
It evens out, don't you think?
