Know have not been too active lately, cancer will do that to a person. Sounds like he decided he liked cheese after all, at least yours. Will say the food sounded tasty.

Thanks for sharing the artwork, notes, and story, Ulla. I enjoyed reading it. You do a good job setting up the situation with your father-in-law and planning the meal. I like the paragraph about you planning the meal and sharing how the ingredients were used.

It was probably good that the meal progressed in steps, and it would make the whole dinner more calm, hopefully.

But to everyone's surprise, your father-in-law came to your rescue. Good for him for saying he was going to have some of this lovely dish you had prepared, and the results spoke for themselves. Well done, my friend. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much, Pam. I couldn't resist writing this little piece for the contest. It was quite a step for him to actually try the dish, and then ending up liking it. Thank you also for your well wishes, dear friend. Ulla xcx

This story is well written, interesting, and flows smoothly. Your introduction prepares the reader for a cheese fiasco. During the body of the story, suspense builds. The story has a satisfying ending when your father-in-law enjoys the dish you prepared. Great story telling. Best wishes in the contest.

Mmmm! I was about to eat, and you made me so hungry with your words! I love moussaka but being alone in a room in assisted living, with just a microwave, I'm having leftover pizza. At least I'll satisfy my cheese fix!

Hi Jim, thank you so very much. I can see it wouldn't be easy for you to make moussaka. But as you say you get your cheese fix by way of Pizza. Ulla:)))

I went to Carrabas's Italian Retaurant yesterday with my daughter. No pizza, but I had rigatoni!

How lovely, Jim, that your daughter took you to Carrabas's. That was a lovely treat instead of pizza. Thanks so much for sharing. Ulla:)))

Excellent entry for the   Non-Fiction Writing Contest. You are an expert writer and you told the story well. I love that your father in law liked the cheese dish after all.  Your descriptive words flow well expressing clear  mental imagery. Now I know I don't have a chance to win. ;)

Good luck in the contest.

This little true-life story about family has good pacing. I did not know what moussaka was, never having made it before, so I looked that up. What a relief that it was a personal preference the father-in-law overcame and not an actual food allergy. You can un-capitalize Dad in "Ulla, my Dad hates cheese." Nice share.

That turned out better than expected. I'd say your father-in-law was a gracious man. Funny how it turned out to be a favorite dish. Good luck in the contest.

He was a lovely man. He genuinely didn't like cheese, but he loved my Moussaka and often asked me to make it. Amazing! Thank you so much. Ulla;)))

Some of the things we think we hate taste altogether different when combinded with other ingredients. I'm afraid anyone who hates cheese would have a problem eating at my table. I'm not a fond of meat and I would hate being served a roast, steak or chicken but I like Moussaka, and many meat dishes well seasoned and with generous servings of cheese. I enjoyed your story.

Absolutely, I can't agree more. It seams that we like the same things. I always use spices and herbs in my meals, and lots of veg and fruit and nuts. A typical Mediterranean diet. Ulla:)))

He sounds like a wonderful guy, Ulla. I'm sure he didn't want to disappoint you after all your hard work, but he was thinking in the back of his mind I'm going to try this and pray I like it! Haha. Great story! Best, JohnC

He was a wonderful man. He really loved that dish against all odds. He often requested it on the menu when they came for a meal. I loved him for it. Ulla:)))

Well now, mozzarella, mainly used in cooking is a bit different from the hard cheese of old England so perhaps it is those cheeses he is not keen on.

My mouth was watering at your menu. I love the idea of gravdad las or gravlas as I have heard it called.

Remember, this takes place in Denmark back in the late seventies. It has nothing to do with any cheeses of old England. Yeah, Gravad Lax is truly wonderful. Thanks for an engaged review. Ulla:)))
