"Fear not for me for I have will,<It's you who must resist."

Also worth mentioning (I think) is that capitalizing every line in poetry is (allegedly) not done anymore. (Personally, I think it's still up to the poet. *smile*)

I loved this poem!
(and this --
And I'm reminded of the words
Once versed in bygone age -
"Stone walls do not a prison make
Nor iron bars a cage."*

Thank you so much, Deborah, for this very kind review which I greatly appreciate! And thank you for the tip on capitals - I really didn't know and yet I've been suggesting people drop capitals in short verses so feel like a right old hypocrite! If I had another reviewer vote it would be yours because nobody has ever told me this before. Bless you, Debbie

I have heard of this guy and hear that he put Putin's vacation house on Twitter (X). He is very heroic. I hope he will live to a day he can be in charge. He is still a young man as I remember in his 40's.

Well done.

Thank you so much for your kind review and comments, all greatly appreciated. I think you're right there and he remains a thorn in Putin's side even while in prison because he has so much support behind him and any mysterious 'death' (he would never commit suicide) would inevitably de-stabilise the monster still more. Take care Debbie x

Navalny is an honorable and brave man who put his life on the line to fight for a cause. Truthfully, when he was arrested, I did not understand why he did not fight from the outside as he would be arrested and sentenced to a long prison term. A lone man fighting against Putin's corruption will disappear in prison. At least on the outside, he would have a strong voice.
Well done in telling his story.

Thank you so much, Mary for your kind review and thoughts, all greatly appreciated! I know what you mean about him staying on the outside but he was determined that he would not fight in exile. And (this has been explained to me) he really is a true nemesis because, with all the corruption that was rife after the break-up of the Soviet Union, he gathered huge support behind him from the people. Putin knows that Navalny cannot be seen to be a martyr and his sudden disappearance (through murder or faked suicide) would actually destabilise Putin even more than his current position. Navalny's strength is in his continued defiance on the inside. Take care Debbie

Navalny is a brave man of honorable beliefs. I wish he would have stayed away but that's the way he is. I hope putin is thrown out of his presidency.

Well done!

Thank you so much! I agree that he should probably have stayed away although he remains a fly in the ointment this way for Putin. Navalny has massive respect and support in Russia and has to be kept alive because any sudden disappearance (through murder or faked suicide) could inevitably stir up trouble for Putin's presidency - and he's got enough of that going on right now! Navalny is playing a waiting Russian Roulette game, if you ask me... Debbie

This is such a clear accounting of the events, the motives, and the man. Very compelling in its relatability to current events elsewhere. To me, it was a call to courage for the US.

Nicki, thank you so much for this exceptional review which I deeply appreciate! I'm simply in awe of this man who'll probably die in prison and had the chance to fight in exile but chose to return for his people. A call to courage, as you say, but for all of us! Take care Debbie

he reminds me of what's happening to our former President Trump. Our corrupt government has trumped up- (unintended pun) false charges against him and threatened 300 yrs! in jail. Evil power is a terrible thing.
Your piece is very good and enlightening. I was not aware of him.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia was falling into the control of horridly vicious gangs under whom life there was worse than under Stalin. Former KGB officer Putin was the only one strong enough to break that trend and calm things down and be a head of state capable of reasonable contact with other nations' leaders. In the process, he became popular with many of the people who no longer had to fear the gangs. However, his passion to restore the Soviet Union brought him to the tyrant he has become; and his attack on Ukraine is one evident result.

Alexei Navalny is a Russian citizen loyal to his country rather than a leader taking Russia into tyranny rather than freedom for the populace. His unwavering bravery is known both in Russia and increasingly abroad. which may be why his arrest has not resulted in his disappearance. He is so well known now that Putin fears obvious murder of Navalny would prompt calls for Putin's removal from office, and possibly worse.

Your well composed ten-stanza poem plus your detailed Author's Notes cover Navalny's story superbly, and the TIME cover is ideal as the illustration. There are more and more countries today that need someone like Navalny to depose tyrannic leaders and restore the freedoms they have been losing in recent years. Accordingly, your post is important and inspiring. Brava!

Thank you so much, Mike, for this wonderful review which I deeply value as well as your very knowledgeable comments. I've always wondered why Putin doesn't get him knocked off in prison and you've explained that so helpfully. The people would know, for example, that he is far too defiant to 'commit suicide.' He is an amazing man and you can't help but get quite emotional thinking about his courage and dedication to his country. He is a thorn in the side for Putin and, as you say, the world is in dire need of someone of this stature standing up against other powerful, corrupt and self-serving psychopaths. Thanks you so much again! I wonderful if I should re-post...? Take care Debbie

You are most welcome, Debbie. Your reviews for this post show that most readers did not know what you revealed in your poem and notes. Thereby you performed a public service. :)) -- Mike
