These flash fiction assignments have been too fanciful for me, but you did an excellent job with it. I like the idea of the emu wanting to fly, with one of her reasons being boredom. When she sees the sign for flight school, she's ready to sign up and really believes she can learn to fly. Good luck with that. Wonderful story-telling. judi

Thank you so much! Yes, most of these prompt leaves me scratching my head for an idea, and can't get one. This one was fun.

This
Story poem reminds me of taking the first step is the most difficult task. In general people are afraid of this or that. In reality, they don't have confidence in themselves.

Once they make the first step, they are one step closer to their destinations. Why don't you be brave and take the first step?

Hello Yvonne,
What a delightful story about Evelyn. For some reason we all seem to want what we don't have, apparently even emus. I hope that she got her wish. It might be difficult to control an airplane without hands, but where there is a will there is a way. Good luck in the contest gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Funny stuff here, Yvonne! But I feel sorry for poor Evelyn. She did end up flying when the transport truck slammed into her. But she did prove everyone wrong. She could fly... right over their heads. And everyone was amazed... because she was fling in bits and pieces. They almost didn't recognize her!
This is a great entry for the "Why Did the Emu Cross the Road?" event in the Flash Fiction/Nonfiction Club. I enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing.
On the bright side, Evelyn isn't bored anymore!
Hugs,
Kimbob

This is so cute! I love it and admire the imagination that you have. You show it in all your posts. Love keeping up with you and your amazing clubs. I will enter sometime soon when I have the time. I care for an autistic grandson which keeps me busy.

I imagine it does. You have your hands full. I'm so happy you enjoyed my silliness. I'm goofier than a bush full of owls, I must admit.

Ah. I lived this. It was the perfect story for the prompt. I'm currently out of sixes but this truly deserved one. Good luck in the prompt contest. Thank you for posting. Gretchen

I am very curious what happened when Evelyn Emu crossed that road. Did she learn to fly? Of course, they were discussing flying airplanes, but still. LOL Imagine could get Evelyn Emu up in the air. I enjoyed reading your cute contest entry and saw no way to improve it.

This was a great 'Why Did the Emu Cross the Road?', damommy. I loved the picture of the emu. This was an interesting concept-the emu learning to fly-what a great desire. I will be interested to the emu to learn to fly. Very well done and greatly enjoyed. Blessings n Hugs!!!

You did an awesome job with your club story, Yvonne.
First of all, the picture made me believe Evelyn was
speaking directly to me. I liked how you formatted the
story. You gave readers great details about what she was
thinking and her desire to fly and why. I liked how you used
italics to set off her thoughts. Those thoughts gave readers
great insight to her character. The lines about being bored
were sad to think the beautiful bird felt that way. Though
her mother had warned her about crossing the road, she
did cross--just like human kids would do--go against
parents. In the end though, Evelyn believed in her dream
and was determined to achieve it. This would make a great
children's book. So she crossed the road.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Our love of birds gives us lots to think about. And as a young person I used to always dream about flying and how much I wanted to be able to. I'd bet you have too. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I was such a tomboy, it's a wonder I didn't try to fly from the trees that I climbed. I guess hang gliding is the nearest we'll ever get to flying like a bird. I want to try that.
