I guess I'm telling my age, but your Bread album brings memories of a song that broke my heart to hear even way back then, but compared to your loss it doesn't seem to monumental anymore. "I found a dairy underneath a tree and started reading about me. The words she'd written took me by surprise. I'd never seen them in her eyes . . . " Thanks for sharing.

This is a beautiful story about a wise and strong woman. You are who you are today, because of who she was then. Your Mother was a very wise woman and that was excellent advice she gave you. We should always thank God for the good of every situation and not whine and cry about loss. That is exactly how I feel about my two children dying over the Holidays last year. I thank God for the loan of them. They were wonderful gifts and I will see them again soon. Great story, Dear. She was right, and she was a strong lady. It was tough love. Because she was speaking to herself as well as to you. There is definitely a place for tears, but not for self-pity, and she was pointing out the other side of the coin. Gratitude for a wonderful father, even for a shorter time, is better than living with lesser father-figures who may live longer. Very well written

Loved this. Glad we do Mother's Day on the same date. I think our Father's days are different. Ours is first Sunday in September. My Dad left us when I was 8. I have written about that elsewhere. No spags!

You had a very wise mother and one who cared deeply for you. You should have entered this in the Mother's Day contest. It would have been my selection because it doesn't use a lot of lovey words but rather shows a magnificent mother.

When I was working (I was a fitness trainer), I used to tell my female clients, "Strong women empower other women." Your mom was a strong woman, and she sought to empower you.
