This is a great story. It has all the elements a ten-year-old would love, especially blood. The only change you might make is starting with Joey running out of the house and asking Billy what he was all excited about. The beginning you have makes it seem as if the story is told by Billy, but it is really Joey's story.

Your dialogue is authentic. Each scene is clearly described, and provides excellent imagery. I loved reading your story. Nicely done, and very well written. Great photo that you used to go with your story. Your story was beautifully written. Thank you for sharing.

The dialogue is authentic. Each scene is clearly described, providing excellent imagery. The magic acts with the hat are completely detailed, and the story is compelling with a satisfying ending. Spellbound, like a child watching a magic show, I totally enjoyed this story.

Nicely done. Well written.
Getting yourself killed, the more gruesome-the better, will do it every time. Excellent way to make friends.
Good work.
Best wishes.

Hi John, thank you for sharing this childhood memory with me. I could see the whole scene. The street filled with children. I could feel the excitement and anticipation of the crowd. Of special note:
Lazard pulled the saw from the box. Thick red fluid oozing from the teeth of the saw, drippi
Also:
The kids ran up to the porch and formed a circle around him. Jumping and patting him on the back, they chanted his name, "Joey, Joey, Jo..."
(The making of a star)
Well done; well told. Perfect photo choice. A pleasure to read. Keep the blue waters flowing. Margaret ~ LateBloomer

Comment from Pam Lonsdale
I admit, I was expecting a more sinister ending, lol!
This seems to have been another time, as I can't imagine kids being that impressed with a magic show these days. But it's a nice story of a new kid in the neighborhood, who has suddenly found fame and friends with the help of his friend, Billy.
This was different, and I like different. Also, your description of the magician's tricks was very engaging. Thanks for giving us an upbeat story full of magic:-)

Pam, you?re absolutely right. Kids today would probably think it?s corny. Generally I try to think about when I was younger.
Thank you for reading and sharing.

Your descriptive powers bring this story to life, right down to the details of Mr Lazard's attire.
Vivid imagery created a wonderful read, "...thick red fluid oozing from the teeth of the saw..."
A fantastic and enjoyable read.

What a fun story, John. I enjoyed reading it.
The details of the magic show were great.
I could see all the kids watching closely and
being amazed. The sawing act was well described.
I'm thrilled Joey became a hero and was accepted by others.
Thanks for sharing, Jan
