This is a sad and moving story about the end of a marriage and the attachments of a mutual sharing of lives. Life is hard and it is harder still when loneliness is your lot. This is well-written but really not likely to change the mind of someone who doesn't feel she has been happy for a long time. Best wishes for a Blessed New Year.

Well written
Your opening pulls the reader right into the emotion of the piece. Your graphic choice is a good match. You have presented some really clear characters in this piece This piece flows well and was a joy to read.

I read this one very slowly, and it is a deep and emotional plea to someone (former wife) that you still love and want. There are no answer, no rights or wrongs when it comes to heart ache. SO, I wish you luck and healing in the new year.

Wow - you certainly laid open your heart with this story and I am sure touched so many who have faced similar trials and tribulations during their life. Regrets and hind-sight carry heavy burdens and I pray our Lord gives you a shining light for a safe path. And maybe Santa will be part of it.

Hugs, Carol

This is such an honest and painful read. What you are going through is not so different from many. As this is posted as non-fiction, I assume this letter was sent to Judy and that you are hoping to be reunited. Whether that happens or not, I wish for you to find happiness in the new year.

I like that you told your story in letter form, and whether it does well in the contest or not seems secondary to what happens for you from here.

Good luck and a happy new year.

Pam

Thanks Pam. It is a story of a lost love trying to find a path back. Yes, many are in the same boat. Thank you for the stars. Happy New Year!

I read this three times and have to concede that I remain a bit confused.
I hate to walk on emotions, understanding the hurt and pain that went into the work. But as I understand it, the writer of the letter to his ex-wife, Judy, mailed the letter to Santa Claus in hopes that he will deliver his wishes for reconciliation to Judy?
Best wishes.

I must admit I don't understand the concept of "in love" opposed to loving. I would have thought that particular horse had already bolted, I think "in love" is a very immature understanding. At 65, the friendship and or, companionship angle of relationship is super important for mature people. Anyway, I believe Santa would'nt understand, but I know that God certainly does. Love is a gift, not a feeling, Beautifully written my friend, good luck, blessings Roy

Oh, my goodness! You have probably written the best entry in the Christmas Story contest. I mean it! You hit a chord in me that continues to resonate after I've finished reading it. The only thing I can say with certainty is that that same chord is resonating in others as I write these words. I do have a few points I'd like you to consider:

I firmly believe that neither one of us enjoy our present situation. [If you will allow me a small correction to this marvelously well-written post: "I firmly believe that neither one of us ENJOYS our present situation.]

And this other: "I had just fallen asleep." [What follows this sentece makes this one illogical. It could be something like, "I had almost fallen asleep", or, "I was in that twilight place between sleep and awake", but not what you wrote. You could even say you faked being asleep because you cherished her touch so much.]

I made corrections following your advice. It made sense. Had I truly been asleep then recognizing her actions would have been more of a dream. Is that correct? And enjoys provides a plural, right?

Wow, this is very touching and it moves me deeply as I can relate to losing the one I love before I was ready to give her up. She told me the same thing you wrote in the sad yet romantic story. I feel for you and hope you get Judy back when the spring comes along.
She must be wonderful and the things I got from my lover were quite similar to the ones you describe in the pleading letter.

I felt the words you wrote to your wife of the despair, anguish, sorrow and repentance as if you were in front of me reading it.

This was extremely well written and wish you well in the contest.
