This is eloquent and clever but it was hard to follow with the deary and sarcastic lines. Even though the last part of this free verse poem spoke of renewal in the dawn it sounded mixed up and downtrodden.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings. I know you were kidding in your author's notes but I would still try to see the brighter side of life if you could.

This is a wonderful free form poetry entry for the contest, Steve. I 'm glad it's not personal but beautifully creative showing much emotion. Well used alliteration, loved it. Cheers

This poem, Landscapes of the Mind, seems to acknowledge that we can be an island. We are visited by others, who come and go like the tide, but will leave us to ourselves.

Unfortunately depression and mental illness is on the rise and I think this is because people have a bigger expectation of life than what they are really entitled too. With social media everyone is posting pictures of themselves on holiday and living the high life, we can't life the high life all the time and we have to work for a living, without hard work we get no rewards and the young especially want everything handed to them on plate. They want fame and fortune.

We can live alone without being lonely and we can turn our eye outwards and appreciate the world out there, the things that are free in life and be grateful for what we have. Sorry if I sound like I am on my soap box Steve, but it is no use being depressed about life, we need to go out and grab life before it is all over, we never know just what we had until its gone! The real suffering is with those who have a terminal illness and still remain optimistic, your write makes us think Steve so you did a good job, you ruffled feathers with some well chosen words, love Dolly x

With your unique way of telling
It feels like
Those colored paper strips flapping lazily in the Tibetan mountains.
Or in other words
Life is a coconut
And acceptance is
Craking it and quenching your thirst.
A sea poem is always
A splash of cold water on an old seaman's face.
Thanks Steve. :-))Z.

Thank you for your unique way of reviewing. I like writing about the sea even though I have never been to sea apart from a little small-boat fishing within sight of the shore!

the crippled brain lives on the edge of doubt, a trembling flame that flutters toward tomorrow

Like this verse. I had to look up the meaning of this verse and here is what I found. Cambridge-based researchers provide new evidence that the human brain lives "on the edge of chaos", at a critical transition point between randomness and order.

(Could this be what you are trying to say? After a person has passed many have a burning flame.)

Thanks for the review, although I am a little confused as I didn't think this had been 'released' yet.

You may take any meaning you can find from this! It is true that my brain is frequently on the edge of chaos so the interpretation you found is as good as any other. Hopefully the ending draws you back away from chaos and at least towards acceptance!
