Lisa,
Your exceptional poem has a heartbreaking theme, and you capture the sadness and despair of this current war.
I never saw action in the military, but I too, would fight in a war, like this one, were all I ever knew would be at stake.
Good luck and best wishes,
Cindy

How lovely - a 6! Thank you so much for waiting to review it like you said you would, and for your comments. I am grateful for your thoughtfulness.
The Ukrainians know what they are fighting for with everything at stake... but I think the Russian soldiers have no real heart for it. Putin is just wasting everyone's lives.

    You?re welcome, Lisa.
    Your poem is really exceptional.
About the war: I like that some former comedian is holding his own against Putin.
    Have a great day, Lisa!
Best wishes for health and happiness,
    Cindy

Wow! This is a very powerful poem, and pinpoints perfectly the anger and hatred that Putin's actions breed. I don't know if I'd have the courage and strength to fight back in such circumstances, but I'd like to think and hope I would. You also point out something so many of us feel, and that I've heard expressed by so many people: that we sit home safely, in the comfort of all we own, while the world is literally falling apart around the Ukranians. If nothing else, these stories, and your poem, make those of us not fighting for our lives, our families, our homes realize just how much we have, and how lucky we are.

Your poem expresses the thoughts and feelings of many people around the world. Watching the news has brought tears to my eyes many nights. I say I can't take it and decide to no longer watch, but the next day, I want to know what has happened, and I watch again. "We in the west, we live so free. Do we assume it'll always be?" Thought-provoking words.

It's all just so awful, being fascinated and repulsed at the same time, with wanting to know what happens and keep informed, but so distressed by the human horror.

This is a beautifully written poem. The pace was smooth and led me easily down the page. The rhymes work well. The descriptive words you creatively used, gave me a tingle. We are so fortunate to be with our families , safe at home and not in a war zone. All we can do is pray .

Thank you for your kind review. I am so grateful I live as far away as possible from warfare - in New Zealand.

Your skillfully-written, moving, timely poem is vividly descriptive of the travesties being perpetrated in Ukraine. I know the U.S. and other countries are helping a great deal, but I don't understand why we can't/won't help establish the no-fly zone The Ukrainian President is begging for.

Like you, I don't understand why a no-fly zone can't be enforced. I guess it would mean having to shoot down Russian planes and that would mean war... but it is war already for the poor Ukrainians.

I'm just not smart enough to understand it all. As you say, there IS a war. If Putin wins, what's next?!
reply by the author on 22-Mar-2022
Exactly. Putin must be stopped - sooner rather than later.

A powerful write Lisa and I felt your sadness here at such scenes and the suffering is unnecessary and heart-breaking. I think we all want peace, but when our lives are invaded by outside forces we want to defend ourselves, it is natural as we fight for our lives, your words hit home here, love Dolly x

I don't any think of us is a true pacifist, one of the questions put to pacifists as conscientious objectors, is just that, if enemy soldiers were to rape and attempt to murder your family, would you just stand by and let them, it's a question for Jesus. Beautifully written, I think when innocent children are killed, it sparks anger in me. Well done, blessings Roy

There is such a high cost for freedom. Sometimes people forget or are not educated about what it took for others to have the right to choose for themselves. The cost is high>

The irony is that what drove you to that desire to fight is your compassion. You hurt so much for those innocent victims. And the heinous lies told to the Russian people just make us mad. But I also feel sorry for the Russian soldiers - some must feel sick bombing people who could be potentially their own relatives. Many ethnic Russians live in Ukraine.

I feel so heartsick for the whole terrible situation caused by Putin's unconscionable lies. Like you, I feel sorry for the Russian soldiers too... or for anyone duped into believing untruths by unscrupulous people. In America - or elsewhere there is a free press - truth can be ascertained, but when state propaganda is the only news then the people are fed lies.
Ukraine and Russia should be blood brothers, not all this hideous blood-letting.

That's why I worry when I communicate with my Russian friends. It's scary because I know the KGB is monitoring everything.

If the enemy was knocking at my gate, Jenny, I would defend myself and mine, but I hope I will not hate. Yet, the evil within all mankind runs deep. In reality, I don't know. I hate what the world has come to be, but we are all different. May we be forgiven if it should come to hate because that's when evil takes hold of our souls.

Read my post and grade me I need 2 more for 15.
