This holds a mirror up to why I started writing. In fact, I had to check that I had not written this! So good to meet a kindred spirit.
I needed something to do, a hobby, after retiring, and Covid lockdowns gave me the space in which to write as did an illness when blood clots invaded my lungs.
My initial efforts were not good and like you, the grammar was awful!
But then I started writing about incidents from my life, and I started to love it. Now I have had some 6-star reviews and won a competition this week. So keep going. Maybe one of us will win a Booker Prize. As for rules, I have started ignoring Grammarly and writing what feels right. Have a lovely day.

Thank you. I ignore Grammarly at times too. Sometimes Grammarly thinks I should rephrase a paragrah and I like it just the way it is I win the contests quite often so I can't be all wrong. I'm glad to hear you are winning too. It sounds like you are doing quite well. Hugs

You told us a very good reason why you like to write. The part where you mention about the s------ word, brings to fact the many reasons why people write, it is to release the stress and burdens they carry.

Your paragraph about your son's death and your own thoughts of suicide was extremely touching. I think if you look at it again you will understand one of the important reasons you write; writing helps you sort out your own issues and feelings through the process of putting the words down. Keep it up!
I did note that the following sentence is a bit awkward: "I must go back and edit them someday, is what I have been telling myself for the last two or three years." You might try rewriting this sentence.
