I loved it! I wish I had a six. Your description of the mysterious lady with a briefcase is stunning. Excellent attention to detail. Tears welled my eyes as I was reading about her. Who knows why she was this way - love gone wrong, relations with her family - but we'll never know. She will always remain an enigma.

I loved it. Best of luck in the contest.

You have told your story well. Great description of this mysterious lady. Now you leave us all thinking about her, and wondering just who she was and what was in the briefcase. Very well done.

Ah, It is a story of people watching and then letting our imagination create all sorts of intrigue and adventure. Anything to relieve the boredom that real life has cast upon us.

Good work, it also remind us, that even if we don't know. Everyone has a tale.

I enjoyed reading your story. It is very intriguing. What a pity that you never found out more about her. I wish you lots of luck in the competition. Best wishes. Jen.

Well, you definitely have me watching and waiting to know more. I don't believe you could have hired a top marketing firm to have created anymore interest. Thanks for sharing.

Amada,

I can absolutely see how this mysterious woman's memory would linger around, leaving mysterious questions in a young person's head. She does sound so unusual! *smile*

But I'm not sure you've actually given us a 'story', though - it's seems you've really only given us a lead-in to one to me. You have got the reader very intrigued with the character, for sure. And now, if you went just a wee bit forward, it would work.

For example, if you said that you stumbled on a newspaper years later with her picture on the front page. Shocked, you read the headline and the main article to your mom and it revealed that.....

Of course, that would remove it from the factual setting and take it into the fictional, but it would take the piece into a 'story' - a piece that has a beginning, middle (climax), and satisfying conclusion.

Just a few thoughts, and certainly yours to use or reject. Thanks! Still worthy of a five.

What I liked about this little story is that it delves into this sense of the world that I too am fascinated with: this sense of mystery of the people that surround us. We have this image of them, walking silently with their briefcases, and we can only guess at what they are doing and where they came from and where they are going. It is a great image of mystery and suspense and it speaks to the fact that we really don't know much about the people we sometimes share apartment buildings with. estory

I wrote a story last year with a similiar theme. It's called Tenants and it is the first story in my collection Intersections in my Port. estory

Neat--the way you managed to wait to the end to introduce yourself--despite this being a story about your life. We are, certainly, that which we perceive.
Right now, this is posted as 'fiction'. Based on the contest rules, you may wish to change it to ;non-fiction'.

Best of luck.

Peace, Lee

Such clockwork consistency and automaton type of behaviour would be sure to leave an indelible memory on an impressionable young mind. You certainly leave us wondering about this strange lady!

Intriguing! Vivid description and excellent narration--amusing to construe such outlandish possibilities--I can relate--I'd feared (with legitimate reason) that my absentee lawyer had been "dumpstered." I hope you write more about this lady!
