Short and sweet. "Springs whisper teases the trees" doesn't conjure up an image for me. I can't see Spring whispering or teasing. I think Spring is such a lovely, vibrant season that it deserves more than a whisper. You already said it was cold "Melancholy cold" by adding Winter at the end is repetition. "New England (writer) would be more creative and add a surprise for the reader, who can see it's cold with no Spring shown here.
