I like the picture. It shows how beautiful nature is.
To me, I like the poem suggests everyday is a new day. This is how the poem says: "As the night eased on into a new dawn, I peeked at the mountain top. To begin a new day, with a fresh set of legs, the sun, the warmth; all gifts!" Everyday brings new hope. Hope is what everyone needs.
Thanks for sharing.

Chan, thanks so much! Every day is a new day filled with the full gamut of life's opportunities to grab a hold on it and soar wallow in discontent.

Dear JLR, I am glad that you told me that you were tackling projects like this, just because of Covid.
And indeed I think you have spent as much effort on this Sestina, as the two men in your illustration took to climb to the very crest of that mountain'
kudos to you, you brave fellow.

Thanks for sharing the thrill of mountain climbing. You show us the arduous task with also reverence for Nature using this difficult form. I tried a sestina once many years ago and for all the effort in writing it, modern readers don't appreciate the work that went into it.

I would tend to agree most people would get lost, ergo all the 5/7/5 contests.

I wrote one of these....ONCE! It came out very well--which it better have since it took me over a month to finesse! You are SO right! Just following the template is migraine producing... Following it and utilizing the words AND developing and maintaining a theme and tone and meaning is a few steps below East Heaven!-- I read it three times! I may--possibly--if the Creator grants me courage and stamina--try one again just because you got my Sestina juices flowing! Hurrah! Sis stars shining brightly!--Karenina

Wow....I was tickled by the Sestina format when perusing shadowpoetry.com as well! That's what got me hooked into writing mine! That site is a GREAT reference for all kinds of forms, isn't it? Love that they allow open access to all of that for non members! I'll let you know when I get brave enough to tackle it again!--Karenina

Knowing now the template within which you have to write this, I have a great deal of respect for this. Good stuff.
Lost me for a second at Picayune. Looked it up and perhaps it should be lower-case?

Great poem. Lots of rules for each section but you did well with that. The problem with this is only one thing, not enough people take time to enjoy the blessing right under their noses. Everyone is to angry and to busy to see the beauty of their surroundings. Hope you do well with this

It seems that I have a lot to learn about poetry. I loved your descriptions of the mountain and can almost taste the fresh clean air. Lovely! It was only when I reached the end of the poem and and read your notes, that I could see what you had done. I then went back and re-read the poem again. All I can say is incredible work. So, I say again,,,I have a lot to learn. Thank you for this. :-) x
