Ah! So your running- racing days are over? Well, your mind goes a mile a minute, so defaulting, excuse me, choosing, to find shelter in writing, seems like a racing or racy choice to me!
Seriously, how is your chest? I know that injury to ribs can take forever, if ever, to heal properly. Did you contuse anything?
Do you have a dog to walk?
Cheers!
Lucy

It took nearly six weeks for be completely healed; but the right side was OK after 2 weeks. I walk 4- 5 miles daily sans dog (my daughter's; she thinks he's too old to walk more than 10 minutes.)

You have a very admirable history of running, and you also have a way with words. You can easily switch to writing and find just as much pleasure and satisfaction there.

If you never ran again you've chalked up an impressive record of participation and accomplishments. Injuries such as yours have a way of literally knocking sense into some reevaluation. If you were half as impressive at running as you ae at writing I congratulate you on your wise-minded switch from one passion to another. ON some rare occasions some wayward reviewer will try to knock the wind out of you--but otherwise writing is the reward, anyone else reviewing is just gravy on the roast!--Karenina

Well, then I'm glad you're here and your competitive spirit shines in your rapid rise in the ranks. No need to feel demoralized as our bodies are changing and we don't know it even without a fall that waylays you for six weeks. My ten minute mile runs (which was fine for me) are no more.

When I retired from sport with numerous trophies at the tender age of 41, I'd had my best season ever the year before, being "Cricketer of the year" winning batting and bowling trophies, and that year of retirement I limped through, not caring if I played or not. It was time to hang up the pads, put away my bat and cap. That person was affectively dead. So I have a good idea how you feel. But I was uninjured. Beautifully written Liz, blessings Roy

There are other ways to exercise. I've read of injuries and even deaths that have occurred among runners. Moving on is a good idea. This is an interesting idea to ponder. Glad you're residing here in storyland. Do try writing some of your flashes in third person and see what happens.

"Move On" is a great attitude. It is the last phrase used in my prose/poem post in December. It's a great idea. I spare myself from running these days. I played full court-fast break basketball into my 50s. I learned my lesson. Your last sentence made me chuckle.

It's so funny. All athletes I know are prompted into stopping running by some stupid, often careless, fall that brings their age home to them.
This poem is a clever meander that brings this information home to us. Also, I particularly liked the double entendre of race right at the end very much.

I certainly resonate with what you are saying here. It's hard when you've been active in something and you finally find it cannot be again. My epiphany came on the tennis court. I decided I shouldn't give it up and went out to the courts (in a Lifestyle type of environment) and lo and behold they had covered the surface with a grassy rug. The first time I swing, I fell, tripping on the rug's bubbles. Goodbye tennis!
