You poem is suitably accurate and will therefore not be understood or accepted by those on the losing 'side' - their idea of a hero is a lying obstructivist who'd rather play golf.

Thanks, Lisa. Sorry for the late reply - I've been on a jury for the last week. Sobering stuff.

Sometimes, the so-called tyranny of the majority serves a useful purpose. So this is a light-hearted truth. Nicely done Southern Cross! AS I've said before, you do preach to the choir. You've also also noted that by this time those who disagree have given up! Not a bad thing. Play on!

Thanks. I don't think I've ever heard democracy described in those words!

Preaching to the choir? Maybe, although a few non-singers have responded and I'm afraid that many of those who disagree will never give up!

I enjoyed reading your contest entry, even though I have not seen democracy win. If the Americans cannot trust our voting system we can't trust ones in authority. Right now we can't trust our system. Good luck with the contest.

Thanks for responding. The only reason some Americans currently don't trust the 'system' is that the President has constantly called it out, starting months before the election. Every state official has confirmed that the election was carried out securely with absolutely no evidence of widespread or systemic fraud, which is why all of Trump's attempts to bring legal cases have been thrown out of court.

So, yes, it is clear that democracy won, even if the loser in the White House is psychologically incapable of accepting it, Sadly the leaders of the Republican Party, who privately concede that he lost, publicly refuse to contradict him. The security agencies have also confirmed that the elections were secure...

If you have some reasonable justification for saying you don't trust the system, I would love to hear it.

Excellent and clever political write, Steve. The artwork is the cherry on the sundae.
I'm proud of US voters of all persuasions for taking their civic duties seriously in these unprecedented COVID times. Well played!

As for autocracy... words fail me

Good luck in the contest.

Stay safe

Blessings Julia

    Thanks again, Julia.

I was actually growing increasingly worried about the sanity of the American people, so it was a big relief when the majority, for whatever reason, chose to vote Trump ou.

I've never been a lover of communism or dictatorships as the people have no freedom. I have seen first hand how oppressed the citizens are in those countries, a poignant write Steve, love Dolly x

Thanks, Dolly. I would agree, which is why I so strongly oppose the autocratic tendencies of Herr Trump.

A perfectly rhyming couplet with 9 and 11 syllable lines. I like that the "one" also sounds like "won." I hope that idea of democracy still is alive here. In these past administrations, because of the presidents inability to work with Congress, many acts were put in place via fiat - by executive orders. That's not democracy. We need someone who can work diplomatically with the opposing party. I hope Biden will do that.

    Thanks, Helen.

When the political forum was functioning, I got into trouble for suggesting that the American system of democracy was far from perfect. Trump has exposed many of its weaknesses, if you ask me. I am glad he will be gone, but I am afraid his malign influence will overshadow politics in the US for years to come.

That's why I'm praying that God will cause the sources that conservative Christians have been subscribing to, will honestly portray Trump as he really is. His image has been carefully crafted to give a completely different picture than what the rest of us have been seeing. This administration has caused the breakup of families and friendships. But Love of God and of each other should outweigh political convictions. Praying for peace and unity in the coming year. Thanks for caring about our country. Be blessed in yours!

Hello Steve.
I was waiting to read your comment on the apparent results.
He's still in a state of denial, now blaming Fox news for his lost.
It must be very limiting to have a partial mind like Trump.
Unfortunately, there will be great problems ahead of us
as a direct result of the mismanagement.
Well said.
Best wishes.
Robert

I am joyful at the result, but like you, fearful of what Herr Trump will wreck on his way out and in the years to come. His cult-like hold on his followers is baffling to me.

An extremely interesting theme to this Steve, I guess you may have had a preference in the American elections, but I must admit I've dealt with with that, I have rid myself of that monkey, well done, good job, blessings Roy

Thanks, Roy. I'm not sure how you have dealt with it. Does ignoring a problem that may affect us all make it go away? Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh, but I am frustrated and angry that this madman has almost singlehandedly damaged the political scene in his country beyond repair and in the process been responsible for the needless deaths of many thousands of people.

My faith in Americans has been restored (somewhat). And I love the image of Trump barricaded in the White House while people dance in the streets and the world sighs in relief. For me, the biggest number is 3. That's the percentage of Americans who think Trump actually won the election. That's a far cry from the 70 million idiots who voted for him. They may be disappointed, but they're not totally stupid.

Now the work begins in earnest.

Good luck, Steve.

Peace, Lee

    Many thanks, Lee.

Like you I am discouraged by the 70 million and made hopeful by the dancing. My favourite Facebook post to emerge from this reads:
Try to live your life in such a way that the whole world doesn't dance in the streets when you lose your job!

I don't envy Biden and his incoming team their job. Imagine being so sabotaged by your predecessor who obviously intends to sit heckling (and worse) on the sidelines.

    Good luck!
