WE CAN'T AVOID GROWING OLD BUT WE CAN DO SOMETHING TO KEEP IT IN CHECK. EATING HEALTHIER,WALKING IF YOU ARE ABLE TO,THERE ARE EXERCISES YOU CAN DO SITTING IN A CHAIR FOR A SLOWER PACE.ALWAYS KEEP YOUR MIND OCCUPIED BY, WRITING, READING, PLAYING CARD OR GAMES ON THE NET. YOUNG OR OLD WE STILL PAY THE TOLL EVERYDAY AND THANK GOD FOR EACH DAY WE ARE ALLOWED TO BE ON THIS EARTH

What an intense well-written motivational essay. I love the sprinkling of quotes throughout. I find myself doing everything you suggested. Learning something new? I'm taking a class in drawing still-life just using a pencil and learning how to shade areas, create highlights, etc. Sorry I don't have a six for this.

Such sage advice here for the aged! Not bad for some of the youngsters, too! What a fine recipe you write with Alrich's words, "to be hopeful, kindly, cheerful, reverent". I enjoyed reading this. It inspires me to exercise my mind with some more writing of my own! LOL

I really enjoyed reading this contest entry. I am 60 and my next birthday is just around the corner. I still teach first grade and am grateful that my 6 year olds keep me young. Good luck with the contest.

Good advice, boxergirl. We might have heard it all before, but we can all use a friendly reminder. You've chosen some good quotes to back up your thinking. I agree that growing old, while not always pleasant, can at least be less stressful by staying active.

"Reading is the gateway to knowledge, and we are never TO old to STOP LEARNING." TOO old to learn.??? Isn't this what you really meant to say?

Good luck in the contest, girl.

This work read like an article out of the AARP monthly magazine: it was information current; relatable; offered an overall upbeat take on the process of aging. The insertion of appropriate quotes from famous folks was a nice touch. I think this a marketable essay.

This essay was so well written and beautifully clear. You also have a fine collection of quotations there. I can't find anything that needs 'working on'. I would have given you five stars, but I have run out of my week's supply. Sorry!

Thank you so much for your review. I appreciate your comment about the stars; however, I don't believe there is a limit to number of fives just sixes. It's all good though. 8-)
