Comment from Donna G. (aka Sam Duck)
This is an emotional and poignant work. It plays on the reader's compassion and humanity and reminds us of our own responsibility.
The only thing I would suggest is the addition of a single letter, in your description. Make it "An Elegy" rather than "A Elegy".
Beautiful work!

This entrenched right in the American Constitution remains a puzzle to many who live elsewhere. When I grew up in England even the policemen on the beat were unarmed. Here in Australia after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, the parliament, with bipartisan support, introduced strict gun control laws restricting the private ownership of semi-automatic rifles, semi-automatic shotguns and pump-action shotguns as well as introducing uniform firearms licensing. Over 600,000 firearms were destroyed during the amnesty period. It seemed like a no-brainer.
Your poem expresses the anguish felt by many.

Yep, I used to be a copper in the UK. What angers me is not the love affair with guns, it's the failure to do anything. Thanks for your review

Very sad and true. Quite well written. I admired the ease of flow and use of vocabulary as well as seeing the situation from all sides, the children, those in power and everyone. All have their demons to deal with and many a hard job ahead.

You put it in words...I get so sad for the victims...innocent slaughtered
We are to strive to brighten the corner where we live...speak right follow God ...do right

Our nation weeps for those twenty beautiful children, and six heroic adult who fought back when this demented young man entered Sandy Hook school. It is up to us to do what we can to persuade our legislators to take a stand and act before more innocent lives are lost. Pass stringent laws banning semi-automatic rifles for anything but law enforcement agencies and solders, and to pass much needed legislation to help the mentally ill in our nation.

This poem must have one of my two remaining precious 6's!
Your excellent poem vividly describes the mindset of so many at this time! Especially great lines--8, 11-12, last two
