Excellent poem, Roy, and you handle heptameter well.
I saw two apparent typos, THERE for THEIR in line four
and WASTES for WASTE'S in line twelve. Sound truth again.

And, let's not forget the Egyptian Empire from the days depicted in the Old Testament. They too fell by the wayside.
This is well rhymed and the intentions behind having written it are honorable, Roy.
But the US is in currently in "survival mode", Roy, as gluts of refugees from civil war torn Syria inundate and assail our shores, Mexicans disrespect and cross our borders illegally with relative impunity and little or no regard for our laws.
My forefathers came from Germany just a scant decade prior to Adolf Hitler coming to power and Nazi Germany became a reality. But they did it legally, through the legal immigration process, as did the Irish, Scottish, Chinese and others did back in the day.
We're fed up with those from other countries taking offense at us saying Merry Christmas because it offends them.
We're tired of seeing our flag burned, spit and stomped on by those who are here illegally and have no business being here in the first place.
We're tired of our money and resources being used for illegals, when we have fellow countrymen suffering, such as our veterans of war.
Quite frankly, we are just sick & tired of it all.
Respectfully,
Dean

I agree with you, Dean, they do the same to us, thousands are assailing our shores, they (our lot) intern small children and women, guilty of not wanting to live under tyranny, but facing a new form of tyranny, these children are becoming disturbed. And there are some bad stories coming out of Europe about the same thing. This world needs leadership, and the US are the perceived power, and I guess when you are a perceived power, you are always the baddy,. But when compassion for those trying to survive fails because they are desperate, I'm on their side. Thanks for the great review dear friend, The US is not the only sufferer. Blessings, Roy.

A very well-written poem. History tends to repeat itself. When we try to be higher and mightier than others we will come to a fall. Sometimes the evil ones seem to thrive in their evil deeds, but they will certainly come to a fall.

Fantastic Roy! You have hit the nail on the head. The US has become prideful and arrogant. The people think it is indestructible. So did the people of the Titanic. We should have learned with 9-11 that we are destructible. God is calling this nation back to Him, but are people really listening. I have been urging people to see the Isaiah 9:10 Judgment. We are following the same path as the Israelites and they were destroyed by the Assyrians, ironically ISIS ancestors. Coincidence? I don't think so.

You don't even live in the U.S., Roy... There may be some who could call this pretty haughty, for writing about a country you don't even live in, right?
I live in the Bible Belt of the U.S., of course, in the bible belt, I'd say they pretty much live a lot like the people of the bible did, lol
and in all the times after it. Some are more pure than others, some are quite corrupt, some are proud, some are not so much, but one thing I say for certain...
it happens in ALL countries, to ALL humans... it's called sin.
I believe it's a thing. ;)
I'm not exactly sure WHY you singled out the US, but I suppose it's my national PRIDE which makes me get my fur all ruffled that you did. ;)
So... yeah. I guess we can all get haughty now and then, eh? ;)

Dear Cat, I'm actually shocked at your reaction, this poem was never about the US or against her people! It's about history repeating itself! Of course the rest of the world is bad also. But the world is looking for moral leadership, and both you, and the world regard yourself as the greatest country in the world. One can't have it both ways. You can't deny the very foundations with which she was built, appear to have collapsed, and destruction comes from within, not without! We appear to be on the cusp of collapse. Only one hope left! Thanks for your review Cat. Blessings, Roy.

Lol, I don't consider myself the best of anything, Roy. You have to know that about me by now. I'm sorry if it sounded like it was attacking you, I wasn't. What I was trying to say is that the entire world seems to be sliding, but perhaps it more the press coverage than anything? I have no idea. The world has always been a bit screwed up, but news didn't travel as quickly.
I thought you wrote a very thought provoking poem, one which made me stand up for my ow country... But I know it's far from perfect.
Do I think an abstract deity is the answer? Personally, no. That guy has been around forever.... And there are more followers than ever... But where there is good, there will always be evil as well. It's called "job security" for both sides I suppose. Lol
However, your thoughts are sound, my point is that we aren't the only ones, and really, you do mention the US specifically. At least that how I read it... Was I wrong?
I would have said, " the world"... Because I think it's a problem with mankind.
But then, what do I know? ;-)
I assure you, I meant no disrespect.
Love and laughter,
Cat

youre forgiven, Cat, to say God's abstract is an unqualified guess though, why don't you ask Him? Roy

This is a powerful and honest poem. The promise at the base of Lady Liberty was true at one time but now seems a lie. I hear Trump talking about kicking people out and building walls, he is a bully and caustic and the last thing America needs right now. Bernie has been fighting for rights for decades, peacefully and with common sense. Vermont is, what America was, and the people need this type of genuine and honesty in the White House. Cheers, j

I like your poem and your are right, pride does go before a fall! When a person or a nation feels they posses all the power, God puts both in their place. Nothing done is within ourselves...only through God does anything prosper! Very nice poem.

What a clever observation turned into a poem. Yes, pride is the source of so many personal and global failings I guess the issue isn't in advocating or feeling satisfaction from achievement, rather we fall short when we gloat, treat a beneficial state as a God given right. We forget that we are all creatures of the same source. This is a superb reminder.
Well done

This poem is quite motivating. Thank you the history that lies therein. I like the approach you used to connect such history with today's times.
Your rhyme and meter are flawless.

This is a great poem you have written, full of truth. It seems not only do nations fall from pride but so do individuals. Well written and interesting to read. Wonderful job on this!
