A tone of whimsy and daydream through this poem, appropriately so, of all the things one might do on winning a large, unlikely sum of money. Your things touched with where the money might go is all things I can relate to... from the little things I'd like to splurge and get... but not really go crazy buying big, and the list of things for helping others as well as the secret hope that, if I were to win the lotto, I hope it wouldn't cost me my good health, my good friends, my piece of mind... as money isn't everything, can't buy happiness, but ... if it could buy me more time, so I'd have more time to play with the kid, and write, well that would be nice.
Sometimes, it's probably more fun to daydream happy things that will likely never happen.

A friend once casitigated me for playing lotto (something which I do, on average, once or twice a year). He pointed out the poor risk to return ratio, with the prize being (say) a million dollars, but my $10 investment having only a 1 in 50 million chance of taking out the big one. Now, I'm no math genius (unlike some here), but I knew that. I also understood a thing we learned about when I was studying Operations Research at Uni (I don't think it's even a "thing" any more. I've tried looking it up, and drawn mostly blanks). Anyway, one way of looking at wagers of any sort is by assessing their utility value. In this case, though risk/reward says I shouldn't take the bet, the perceived benefit to me of getting a $10 million windfall so far outweighs the hurt caused by losing $10, that the bet becomes worth taking. I'm sure none of this is news to you, I just thought you might find it an interesting observation, given your mathematical skills. Plus, it more or less says in a lot of words what you said succinctly in your last sentence ;-)
Many thanks,
Craig

Hi, Craig,
Interesting word - pennif. And an interesting commentary we have all pondered. What would it be like to win the lottery? I've come to the conclusion I will probably not win - I keep forgetting to buy a ticket,

That's my problem as well. I think they should just call me to say I've won, and I'll happily run straight into town and get one :)
Cheers, Craig

Ah, the dreaded powerball. It's been the talk of my workplace for a week. Great whimsical poem - I too daydream about winning (but never buy a ticket - so I can't say my chances are all that fantastic!)

About the same as mine, Robbie :) Many thanks, Craig.

So glad you also gave the meaning of the "chook raffle." I wouldn't have guessed that one. The pennif I might have guessed but dollars don't sound like pennifs. I would think just buying the chicken would be better return on the investment.

Hi Craig. Well metered and rhyme as usual. I suspected pennif had something to do with money. I thought pennies though interesting it means bank note. Thank you for sharing

A wonderfully entertaining write -- great form and easy-to-follow rhythm that just pulls the reader through to the end! :) :) And who hasn't dreamed of winning the lottery? But you do realize that ALL of your friends - both fair-weather and real - are now wondering as to which of them you were referring here....?! :) :) lol
Thanks again for the smile and have a great evening, sir! :) :P Yvette

Comment from Gloria ....
You won the power ball and you didn't even tell me, Craig? Well I hope I'm one of the friends you'll give a few pennifs to, because I have big plans for a library for the poor, right after I purchase a new truck. lol
Very nicely done, and I hope you do win that powerball.
Gloria
PS: We have "meat" raffles too and I just can't get my head around that concept. Maybe it had something to do with back in the day when they hunted?

Ooh, I like your idea, Gloria. Consider yourself enlisted. However, the fact that I am not typing this from a yacht on Sydney harbour, soaking up the rays and drinking champagne should give you a clue I didn't win lol Many thanks, Craig

That would be grand to in the powerball, Craig. You did a great job with your word choice as the topic. Your lines flow well with good rhymes and a good story. I really like that you would donate to Animal Rescue. I enjoyed reading this. Maybe some good luck will come to me Saturday night when the next drawing is held. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Craig, This is a very well written poem about the lottery and what it could be if you won it. You used very good words and appropriate imagery. I don't play the lottery, but if I did I would try to help some that really needed it and especially cats and dogs. I don't even do the Publishers Clearing House anymore. Blessings, Teri

Well it's not a regular thing with me either, Teri. The odds are about the worst you can get :) Many thanks for the great comments. Craig

A very well-written poem about luck and winning competitions an contests which is 20/80 20p skill and 80p luck. My shift on this device doesn't work so the p is for percentage. I once win 100p discount at a clothing shop, unfortunately I only bought for R500.00 less than 50 dollars. Lol.

That would have been the time to spend up big, Sandra! Or did you not know until it came time to pay? lol Many thanks, Craig

Yes, my thought too. It was only revealed when I pay that I got 100% discount.
