Oh! but we have so many! In my native state of Kerala( it is the southernmost state in India)they are kept in temples and they are made to carry God"s idol during the temple festivals)very often we can see them walking along the road with their mahouts and they would happily oblige if you offer them bananas or palm fronds. But I feel very sad when I see that their legs are in chains.
loved the poem and the photo of Sawyer trying to count ants!

Thank you so much, Sanku - I am sure Sawyer would love to visit your state to see all the elephants out and about and not just in a zoo :-) Brooke

This was so much fun. My wife loved this. Once again she wants to know why I don't write things like this. Hahaha!! Well, I'm working on it. I've been to Encino and I've never seen Elephant one there either. I do think I've seen a banana tree or two though. It must be something else! mikey

Dear Brooke,
This is just too cute. For some reason, the title sounds so musical to me, maybe it's the use of "Encino"...We should collborate on a "kindy" CD (there really is such a genre) and make a bazillion:) Great job--Ted

Like the way you've written about elephants while Sawyer is down on the ground peering at an ant parade. Good setting with the text and t-shirt match up.Enjoyed the read.

I love both the art work and words here very much.
I found watching ants fun when I was young
It is great that Sawyer watches them as well.

Ummm you need to listen to I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. This song would go great with that and remember: If there's a will there's a way

This is very cute. I wish your grandson was here right because there is a long bug crawling across my screen as I write this.

To adewpearl,
A distinguishing view of the diverseness in size for Sawyer to witness the elephant vs. the ant. And even more so having less in common
Your quatrains showed a good cadence and enjambment statements.

Captured the whole way of a child's thinking about things like elephants living in suburbia.
Great photo with the poem.
Thanks for sharing.
